What is this weird tool used for?

What I am looking for is a cordless impact, with around 200-240 ft/lb tq. I do not want to spend the $300 for snap on, craftsman. , milwakee etc... would like to find good of brand if possible. I would also like it to have carrying case and a spare battery. also being big and heavy isn't nice to handle constantly. So, what do you guys have/used ?

right now I have 24v harbor freight, big and doesn't run very well, sounds like a hammer and chisel, not like an impact wrench.

I am having trouble finding anything in stores. Seem to be rare!??

Thanks

I had one of the $198 off-brand 19. 2v impacts from "Insert Racing Warehouse Name Here" that lasted about a year. It worked great until it broke.....

Now I have a Snap-on CT3850. Yes it was over $300, yes that's a lot of money, yes it works great, yes I'm glad I bought it, and yes I'm ****** that I didn't buy it to begin with... ...

To get a good one IMHO you'll be spending at least $250-300. If I didn't have the Snap-on I'd probably get the Makita. I don't like the big bulky units & the Makita seems compact, like the Snap-on.

Dan-

I started to build my cordless system around DeWalt several months back. Wound up with their 18V hammer drill, sawzall, snake light, and now a 300 ft. lb. 1/2" impact wrench. I have mainly used it to rotate tires, and to remove the bed to do the vent mod. Works well and breaks our lugs loose without too much grunt. I think I got it on Ebay for about $150 less battery. Works great, good luck.

I have the Milwaukee and love it. I think it's a little less torque than the DeWalt, but still works great for changing tires. I've never had good luck with "less expensive" cordless tools, so I think spending a little more money is worth it in the long run.

I have both the Snap-On and a DeWalt. I love the Snap-on, but for some tighter spaces the little 1/2 drive stubby from DeWalt works great too. Just don't waste your money on a cheapy, because chances are you will buy another if the cheap one does not do what you want it too, then you are more money... ... ... ... :(

I have the DeWalt 18 volt impact, and I really like it. I think it has a little less torque than the Snap-On but it works pretty nice. I also think that the torque on these is measured in Inch/lbs instead of ft. /lbs of torque. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

PSU-CE can you break a lugnut loose w/ yours because I don't think mine will do that. Let me know maybe something is wrong w/mine.

I second the snap on and Dewalt. Be carefull on selecting a dewalt since they have a few different ones. I have a buddy that designs parts for Black & Decker tools IE dewalt porter cable etc. and know that the new heavy duty dewalt is a very nice tool that is cheaper to buy and will last longer than the snapon. SnapON cordless tools are famous for burning out switches. I'll call and ask him the model number of their heavy duty 18v 1/2 impact from dewalt.

I have a Matco 3/8's cordless right now ive had it for about 6months im happy with it so far. It has no problem bringing lug nut's off.

I am an idiot. I have the cordless impact driver not the impact wrench which is rated at 1170 in/lbs of torque. Which would explain why it won't take off a lugnut. I did not even know they were making the one mentioned above.

My driver did come w/ two batteries and a charger. I am not sure about the impact wrench.

Yes, depending on the nut. They're rated at 240 ft-lbs. It came with two batteries, charger. Sears has them for $299.

I have a craftsman... . a waste of $$$ IMO, but then again i was toooo cheep to pop the coin for a Snappy. Shoulda got a Snappy when they were on promo a coupla months back, now I get to pay 2X (there`s some sound finacial wizardry huh?). I should point out that I have used both and Snap`s is hands down a more powerfull/better built unit.

Snap-on or Milwaukee are really good. It just bugs me that DeWalt is the industrial tool division of Black & Decker (JUNK!)

I'd check ebay, I get a lot of tools there.

Mac Tools 1/2 inch cordless impact. 19. 2 volts. Yes it's 300 bucks, but buy it once and be done. Mac will warranty it. I've had mine for two years of racing and it's been bullet proof. Plus when you let off the trigger it has a brake to stop the motor from free wheeling. The first time you flip a socket off and it damages a wheel of smashes your face you'll appreciate the brake.
