Howdy.

Next weekend my 99 2WD gets its very first tow - so I am in the market for a drop hitch. I found lots of posts on 4WD drops, but wonder what you 2WDers use. The RV place said I want the ball to sit about level with the middle of the differential - can anyone confirm or deny?

Also, I can only find 5000# units at Napa/Camping World/ Uhaul/ etc. Any suggestions where to look for a 10,000#? Whats reasonable?

Thanks - I can't wait to see how the 6 speed does towing!

Vic- all I can tell you is that you want the trailer to be reasonably level and you need a drop which will allow that. I have a 2" drop for my work trailer and a 4" one for my lowboy and boat trailers.

Vic,
Like Bill said, select a drop that will allow your trailer to sit level. The only 10,000 pound receivers you will find are weight distributing and are expensive. Is your trailer heavier than 5000 lbs w/500 TW? If not, just buy a receiver that is V5 rated.
Your stock class IV hitch is rated at 10,000 lbs. with the proper weight distributing receiver equipment. Most people that tow these kind of loads use a fifth wheel or gooseneck. Happy trailering.

Thanks for the input. I think I might try one of the adjustable ones at NAPA - that way I should be set no matter what small trailers I tow in the future.

I'll be towing about 4500 lbs - really looking forward to playing with the 6 speed and this load in the Montana mountains.
