Anybody replaced the U-joints in a Corvette rear axle? I might take on the job, just wanted to know if there are any "special" tools I need, or is it a simple pull the axles and replace the U-joints? Its a 1979

It can DIY'd

I've Done it before, Just jack up the Vette in back, Pull the wheels, and then unbot the U-Straps from the Diferental, and unbolt the flanges from the Inbrd side of the spindles. The Inbrd U-jiont can be "Hamered" out just like any drive shaft. The Outbrds are tougher, as the flanges tend to bend. I ended up taking mine to a Machine shop for the outbrd sides.

Thanks. I was talking to a buddy, it sounds like I should also do wheel bearings and maybe rear trailing arms all the same time and do it right. He will have the "low down" for me tonight.

I spend 14 years in the garage (several of them my own bussiness) before switching to computers. I got the tools, I just need to see if its a job I want to take on. I am looking at getting some drywall work done, and the finisher owns the corvette, thinking about spending labor instead of green backs to pay the guy.
