Yesterday, I stopped at my local Dodge dealer's part department and purchased a oil plug washer (aka seal - oil plug) for a 1997 5. 9 Cummins. I was shocked  when I learned the prices was $14. 14 list or $9. 40 net. I did not realize the metal portion of the washer was made out of gold. Why else would the washer be so expensive??

Has anyone else encountered similar prices??

Dan. .

I stopped & got a new drain plug from Napa the other day and it was almost the same price for the washer as it was for the washer and plug. So I got both for about 7 bucks as I recall and it looks high quality.

Look at NAPAONLINE and could not find a part number for an oil plug. Do you have a part number??

Thanks, Dan. .

i use a aluminum washer that actually is for the timing tensioner of a bmw ( i do a lot of head jobs and have plenty of spares) you could take the plug to a hardware store and match up a copper or aluminum washer, get one that's bigger then the outside of the flange on the bolt as you need to cover the wonderful cuts they put in the bolt hole that **** oil all over you the second the plug is loosened

I recommend the "finger touch" drain valve from Genos. Never need a gasket again, never worry about stripped threads, never drop the plug into the hot oil in the drain pan. There is one downside. It blocks the drain holes that are drilled into the threaded portion of the pan and won't allow about a qt to drain. There is a fix for that. After draining the oil mark the location of the holes on the bottom of the pan. Screw the valve in and tq it. Mark the drain hole location on the valve. Remove the valve and cross drill thru the threads of the valve. Reinstall the valve. The holes should line up with the holes in the pan, and all the oil will drain. I've done over 100 oil changes with mine. Works perfect.

Stopped by NAPA today. .

Oil drain plug (includes the plug & gasket [metal/rubber] - Part Number BK 7041378 - Price around $7... Looks like the OEM one.

Oil drain plug gasket NAPA Part Number BK 7041214. . Did not ask the price...

Either one of these options is less expensive than my Dodge dealer...

Dan...

I have the drain plug from Geno's too. I really like it and very convenient. I'm not worried about the little bit of oil thats left in the pan.
