It's not worth it with the OEM tires. $40 to rotate. I'm coming up on 15K miles and they need to be rotated so I will spend the $40 one time so I can get 30-35K out of them. If you rotated these things every 5K miles and it gave you an extra 10K miles out of the tires it would cost you $360. That's the difference in the cost of buying great replacement tires 60K-80K mileage, like the Michelin XPS Tractions or the Toyo M-55's for ($1,100) or the cheap 30K mile replacement tires for ($600-700). This rotation cost is taken out of the equation with the replacement tires since it is part of the package. Just justifying trying to wear out these OEM Goodyear's as fast as I can. ;) Looks like I can do it. :D

Whats the matter Pit? Don't you want to get that little OEM jack out and jack her up and put blocks under there, and then get that damm un-wieldy lug-nut wrench out and spend about an hour and a half on your knees on concrete?:D You wuss! ;)

I'm laughing out loud! I finally bought a Milwaukee Impact Wrench that I found on sale to do my rotations and I have a 3/4 ton!!! I don't know what I would do if I had a Dually... probably do like you are contemplating.

I rotated my dually's tires twice before I said enough of this nonsense. Now at 122k and second set of non-stock tires. I figure at most the tire life is only lessened 10k by not rotating at all.

I'm on my 20th tire in 51k miles! Rotating didn't help me any! Winding roads eat front tires!!!

My only reason for rotating is that the rears are wearing 2 times faster than the fronts and my front drivers side is a little choppy on the outside edge at 15K miles and no rotation. I figured I would do one rotation and then drive them until it was time to get some good tires. On my 2000 3500QC 4x4 I was running the factory Michelin LTX/MS, they wore just the opposite, the fronts wore 3 times faster than the rear's. Trucks are driven on the same roads with the same loads. Only difference is the 2002 is a regular cab 3500 4x4 and it has the factory Goodyears :( . Can't wait till I wear these things out and I can get some real tires :) I figure by then I will be able to decide between the M-55's and the XPS Tractions.

0 miles: 6-OEM Goodyears (junk, but lasted the longest since I couldn't corner)

15,645: 6-Yokohama LT235/85R16E Geolandar HT

24,850: 2-Cooper Discoverer AST E LT235/85R16 Tires (fronts only)

32,590: 2-Cooper Discoverer AST E LT235/85R16 Tires (fronts only)

40,383: 6-Cooper LT235/85R16 SRM II

51,700: 2-Cooper LT235/85R16 SRM II (fronts only)

Darn, I guess that makes 24 tires! :{

Well, if I was driving straight lines from one fishing hole to the next, I might get your kind of mileage out of my tires, Jim. ;)

I had local tire shop rotate at 20k. Had a little cupping on the fronts. Tire shop recommends 10k. Thinks origionals will go 40k (one more rotation) before needing to be changed. Michelin XPS are $160 but seem to be the tire of choice.

He recommended a tread more aligned with the road ie less aggressive would give better wear.

Rotation cost = 1 hour + $29

No discount tire store there???

They rotate for free here. Even for my heavy truck. The lift coudn't get it all the way up and they had to use jacks to help it. The only thing that scared me was that they weren't sure about how to rotate without reversing tire direction. Good thing I always keep an eye on these guys and straightened them out.

But I would also agree that unless you have some serious tire wear on the fronts I wouldn't bother. The gain is minimal.

Sams and Sears will both rotate for free if you purchase from them. I purchased my LTX M/S's from Sam's 27000 miles ago and they still look fine. The ones that are now on the front show a little more wear than the rears after my last rotation but that wear is still on the rear quarter panels. :D

All I can say is WOW :( . You need to try the Michelin XPS Tractions. All Steel will lower your heat build up and extend the life of the tire. That is the worst tire performance I've ever seen. I might wait until 20K miles to rotate since I won't get more than 30-35K out of these Goodyears.

It's the original tires that cost to rotate. When I buy the replacements the rotation will be free. The point I was making is that it would cost me $300-400 to pay to rotate the original tires for maybe an additional 10K miles of service life. Not a good investment. I'm beginning to think that being retired gives me way to much time to think about stuff :)

Sams would be where I will purchase the XPS Tractions. Have you had good service from them here locally? Do they act like they know what they are doing?

I would try anything if I knew it would extend the life. I've even thought about trying the Alcoa or Rickson rims but the thought of contant replacement of even more expensive tires was chilling! :(

During the last install, the shop rolled out a 14-ply beauty that they wanted me to try (I forget the brand), but at $255 a pop, I thought that I would hold off a bit. I've had the alignment checked but I attribute the wear to my commute--my car only gets 10k as well.

I originally bought two extra large floor jacks to rotate the tires myself (don't like the shops chipping up my plastic wheel covers  ), but all it ended up doing is wear out all six tires instead. Now I just replace the fronts right before I take the camper out.

Pit Bull,

Honestly, The Discount Tire stores here will even rotate your OEM tires for free. They fix all flats for free too. Regardless if you bought the tires from them or not. Heck they even repaired my wheelbarrow tire. The biggest downfall is having to wait if you need the truck. They are always busy.

Pit, Their shop guys seem to be OK. They did a good job on my truck and used a torque wrench to tighten the wheels back up with. Those 3500s must wear the tires a little different than my 2500. My fronts have always worn exactly like the backs. Nothing abnormal. Which surprises me because I run a lot of gravel roads during hunting season. I kind of figured that even the Mich's would chunk out like the stones I took off the truck but they evidently are a much tougher compound. I do wish they would have had a 285 instead of the 265 E range that I bought.

Big White Beast is right, Discount Tire has rotated my originals 4 times now, no charge. The only problem was the first couple times when I got home and went to check the pressures I had requsted the holes in rims didn't match up and not able to get at the inside valve. Back for another hour wait. 45,000 mi. now and am in nead of new rubber also. Decisions, Decisions...

I must have gotten a good set of OEM Michellins because I am at 58,000 miles and still have about 10,000 miles left on them. I have the tires rotated every other oil change ( 15,000 rotation) cost is only $15. 00. I figure that the money is well spent with the mileage I am getting out of them. Problem now is that I need to start checking out replacement tires and don't know if I should get another set of Michellins or go with something else. Sam's seems to have the best prices around here on tires. I ahul RV's for Dealers and also haul around 20,000 lbs on my gooseneck everyother day. I can't complain about the Michellins.
