This question is for those who have put the 3rd gen heated tow mirrors on their second gen trucks. I am wanting to go with the factory mirrors, but want to know the cost. Right now I have the worthless "sport" mirrors and need better ones. If it costs alot to get the power, I'll go with the manual tow mirrors. I can get a set for around $200. I hate to lose the power and heat features, but the mirrors do me no good if I can't see around my horse trailer. Thanks

well, in order to do the power/heated tow mirrors you have to have a set of 2nd gen mirrors AND a set of 3rd gen power mirrors... you can shop around, but it's going to be expensive however you slice it. I did the conversion on my truck, and I rarely use the power/heat. my buddy's got the regular manual ones on his 99 and he loves them

No, you actually switch the bases of the mirrors so the 3rd gen mirrors are on the 2 gen bases. Do a search on how to do it.

That's exactly what I mean. Contrary to Sixpack's post, I was not referring to mating third generation powered heads to second generation bases.

Replacement heated glass for the third generation mirrors will fit second generation mirrors: http://www.burcoinc.com. Whether it's worth it or not is your call.

take a look at powervision mirrors out of pendelton Or. they extend, they are larger than stock, heated and both control from drivers side. robert

those powervisions look like Chevy mirrors :(

I prefer the clean OEM look of the Dodge flip-outs

Very true. And from my experience, those mirrors don't do that good of a job. Especially the passenger side since it ain't convex and thay have no spot mirrors.

The 2nd/3rd conversion is not as bad as it sounds. The first one took awhile the second took 20 minutes from start to finish. The main problem was unseating and reseating the locking ring over the spring. Once you find the right screw driver it is cake though. I reseated the lock collar with a big C clamp and a deepwell socket that fit just inside the retaining ring outer lip.
