Guys, one of the trailers I pull is a 6X12 cargo trailer. Normally, I wouldn't care what the trailer looks like, but this particular one needs to look good. Does anyone have some good ideas on how much it will cost me to have someone repaint it? I'd like to have some kind of idea before I take it to a body shop. I don't want them to highball me and not know the difference... .

Thanks in advance!

If it is aluminum sided, like most are, it may be worthwhile just to get the thing reskinned if you have a manufacturer nearby. Or contact the manufacturer and see about having some new panels shipped to you.

It matters how bad it is..... if the primer base is exposed or if it is peeling etc. Just to sand it down & spray it..... you are looking at $500-$600. If it needs stripped down & primed,painted... . probably $300 more. Just a guess. I would buy some sand paper & a D. A. sander..... you can do it yourself for around $300... . if you have a paint gun & general knowledge of painting. Just my $. 02

Thanks guys. The paint isn't peeling or anything, it just looks bad where some vinyl logos were. The paint has faded around the logos, but underneath it looks fine. It's not a huge amount, but it is noticeable. I normally wouldn't worry, but the logos that were removed were from companies that are out of business.

I am sure there is a spot in town where you could leave it and get it painted by some of the local " rattle can artists" for free :-laf

Yeah, I thought about getting one of those "Magical Flaking Paint" jobs, but I opted to pass on that... . :-laf

Do a wrap. there are companies popping up that can wrap an entire car, truck, trailer, etc in vinyl. You can do color, artwork, logos and more.

Check out the work these guys have done: www.apewraps.com

That ape wrap place manufactures some really high end stuff. I really like the skull and crossbones decal that they make

Yeah, I've looked into the wrap stuff. Some of the work is awesome, but I could sell this trailer, and buy a nicer one with what that wrap costs... . It would look good though!

I did get one idea. Do you guys think oven cleaner would hurt the paint? This is the first some I've ever seen a dirt/fade problem I couldn't wash/wax/buff out.

Have you looked at whether a local high school or votech with an auto body program will do it? I had the local votech do a car for me. Wouldn't send it to a car show but it looked pretty good and I only had to pay for materials.

How about coming up with a really cool Cummins decal or something along those lines to cover up the part you dont like? Or maybe some flames? Hope this helps!

Chris

I'll look into the school thing. That's a pretty good idea!

It's been too cold to try the oven cleaner thing though. I'm going to try it on a part that won't show up, just in case it doesn't like the paint.
