Last week I noticed a pretty bad vibration in my 02 at about 70 mph. I slowed down a little and it went away. The vibration came back at each speed I slowed down to. I told my wife we were about to lose a u-joint. Then there was the loud bang. I got out and expected to see the rear driveshaft hanging down. What I saw was a virtual rainforest of ATF under my truck from a split t-case. After $1200 and a rebuilt case from Blumenthal's, I was ready for the road again. Took it for a test drive, still had the vibration.
Got the truck back to my shop and got to looking. Turns out, my front CV was toast. I didn't notice it was bad when I removed it to replace the t-case b/c the t-case was so wobbly itself. Anyway, now I'm thinking that a $300 driveshaft just cost me almost $1600!
You guys think that the bad CV put enough stress on the case to break it?
Thanks,
Ian
