Water in Fuel. Help!

Went to BD dyno day. Weather was good, had a friendly greeting from the guys at BD and the food was good.

I was curious to see what hp I could get out of Piers 1992 loaner engine was capable of. The engine is stock other than regular POD's (was tempted to put in the reworked POD's but didn't ) and my custom diaphram pin.

Results. Made 3 runs over 325hp with 328. 3 hp being the best

Bushwakr and Canadian Crawler made some good hp too, but will let them post there results. Way to go Bob and Lee.

Good to see some NW Bombers made it up also. Eric squeaked out some more ponies too.

Sounds like it was fun. Sorry I couldn't make it. The guy who built my truck says it was dyno'ed at 190 RWHP at Valley Diesel. He didn't want to take it any higher for fear of reducing fuel mileage.

Well, as usual mark has set the bar a tad higher for all of us here...

Get to work guys... :D. .

I turned a 284 HP today. My temps were pretty ugly though... don't ask. . ;) At the end of the 2 runs, my open diff had me burning the right rear tire and stinking to heck... I wonder if that made any difference??. Oh, guys, use a 16 housing when you get up in this range, you won't be sorry... mine goes back on ASAP.

There is a bit left in the ole girl yet, and I think that mark has a few of us chasin him to the finish line. . :D

My goal, for what it's worth, is to turn similar numbers when PDR's dyno goes in and they have an open house day...

What's the chance that a few of you guys can pull some tricks out, and maybe attend IF Piers has an open house day???

I got a chance to meet MDKRam, aka: Mark Kuzik outta Alberta... . great guy, and he drives a 2nd Gen too... . go figure eh ;);):D

After many phone conversations, I finally got to see/try his "high idler". It is a sweet little unit, all mounted IN CAB so no exposure and is a positive, variable control unit that will run right up to about 2500 RPM or anywere in between. . neat !!

If I remember right, Canadian Crawler did about 258 HP.

Bob.

:-laf :-laf ... I don't know, but let me put it this way... . in my case, the good news is the 1800*F pyro guage did not top out on me, the bad news is it was only 100*F from it... ... :--) :--) :--)

bob.

Oh my gosh, BOB. You know what I'm putting down and I only make 1300 degrees climbing a 11% grade for 30 seconds. Maybe there is something to this little exhaust mod that I do. I will have numbers as soon as I do a friends and dyno it and do a road test.

WOW! that is HOT!!

Better look in your tail pipe and see if there is any aluminum.

Ya I know Dave, I was very surprised since I'm running one of Piers' HX's.....

My fuel screw is in all the way, as in, it won't go in any more. In fact it's snug enough I don't really need to use the locknut. I did not have a runaway at least...

Piers made mention that my run was probably too long in duration. I came home an looked at the printout, and sure enough by the time I had hit about 53 mph, I was showing the full 284 HP, but the run went on all the way up to almost 70 mph before terminating. I'd hazard a guess that at the 53-54 mph mark I was in the 1300*F range. So, maybe it was just run duration. I don't have enough dyno experience to know for sure, but I'd think Piers would ...

Still I know there's a bit more fuel, timing, and one of two other things to do for the last bit or remaining hp gains.

I'll do that when PDR has their dyno up and running, if they have an Open House/Dyno Day.

By the way, next time you're up, if you're in early enough mabye we can do some porting on the manifold. Or leave the equip for a week or so, that way I can do it in my own time and driveway...

Good news is I didn't break 1200 deg on the dyno for any of the 3 runs. :D No porting either but I'm waste gated and dumping boost at 22 psi. Still gettting just over 40 psi though. ;)

With a PDR HX40 350 hp would be easy. My goal before my killer engine is ready is 400 hp on #2 only.

:-laf I figured you'd put the bigger one back on :D The 14 is a bit hot on top. Since you're at it, why not put on an 18. 5 and go FIF for a while  :D Nice numbers, btw ;)

Mark, 325hp sounds real good :D What's going on here though, didn't you make 308 with your previous engine and that had a cam in it, and the current engine is a stock '92 with stock POD injectors?

Sean

Your right Sean,

I was getting bored waiting on parts for my engine and had to do something.

My engine that I sold had a PDR cam in it. We have never claimed more power with the PDR cam. Just more useable power, faster spool up and lower egt temps with the cam.

I do miss the cam and can't wait to test our newest cam coming out in late summer in my P-pumped 24v race motor.

Let me explain a little more on why I miss the cam so much.

1st the cam made the torque and hp come in earlier and hold steady right through the rpm range without droping off like the stock cam does. Specialy the hp as there is no curve drop any more with the 1st gen cam, it runs flat (less than 10hp drop off ) over the rpm range to 3600 rpm. Torque drops of slighty but was still at over 500 ftlbs.

Thats what we call useable power.

2nd was the mpg gain.

3rd was the egt drop.

4th was it just flat made my truck get up and go. :D

Great numbers guys. So what’s with this "if" there will be a PDR dyno day? That’s what I have been waiting for. We can’t let mark have all of the fun ;)

Mike

There will be a open house/dyno day in the future. Just no date yet.

As with any new construction things move slowly and heaven knows the patience of Piers and Louise is amazing.

When the dyno is set up and we are settled in a little more we will have a dyno day/ open house to set the standards of fun. I don't think anyone else has as much fun as us week in and week out. Those that visit us for awhile know what I'm talking about. :D Everone leaves with a smile.

The new shop is up and running. Offices are almost finished and we are settling in slowly so drop on in and check it out.

That would be about 22 more hp from what I've heard. No problem. I've heard the other day through the grape vine he's calling me out. :( No problem. I don't know anything about him. Has he done everything himself? Whats he running? Stock engine? Stock pump? (By that I mean no aftermarket parts or boughten pieces other than turbo and inj) Does he have any dyno sheets that can be varified from a dyno day that lots of other trucks ran on the same day that he can post? Sorry don't trust any dyno sheet unless varified by lots of indipendent onlookers because as we all know a dyno can be manipulated to read just about anything the operater whats it to show! Clue me in! I'm up for a challenge!

Anyone that knows me knows I will open my hood to inspect what I'm running at any time. No hidden secrets. Only turbo and inj. #2 unmodified diesel with no additives at all. Will gladly let anyone pull down the engine as long as they can put it back together. ;)

Very interesting. I just did a little reading over at a site I haven't looked at before. Monty at DTR posted a link. Seems I know KTM- Cummins and even have chatted with him by e-mail when he contacted me and didn't know he was KTM-Cummins. Took me until now to put 2 and 2 together.

How are you doing Brian.

Seems Brian has been watching my #'s for awhile and went for broke. ;) No problem Brian. Got you covered. ;) Even with a Hx40 I will break 355hp :D

Seems the little HX35 I am running is a little small compared to his Kwik spool B1. and custom inj. Tell you what Brian, If Piers lets me match your B1 with his HX50 I will show you some #'s. :p LOL

And I take the "don't trust the dyno #'s" back as I do trust you now that I know who you are. I think you understand.

Looking forward to the challenge. :D

P. S. Seems you guys have that site all to your self. Why don't you come join us over here at TDR as we aren't all that bad are we. And we are "good old boys" too, just on the other side of the map from you guys. Right cousin Billy. :p

When I find out what day the PDR Dyno is I will be sure to book that weekend off this time. I've never been to one of these things before but am lookin forward to one.
