Well my truck clicked over 100K last year and at 34K I installed a custom DTT towing transmission, Jammer 1's, Comp in EZ mode, Banks 4" Exhaust brake among other things.

The truck got the best mileage ever on out trip from Northern Washington to Arizona after Christmas, getting over 12 MPG on each tank. Combine weight was 20,600 or so.

After getting here I started noticing first thing in the morning while running very slowly in the RV that it would try to shift out of first gear and flair a bit and end up back in first gear, and then repeat it once of twice again. The rest of the day it shift fine. I check codes and see nothing besides that normal ones that the DTT transmission always sets. It has been a while since I have changed the Amsoil transmission fluid. I does look nice and red and level is correct. Any thoughts?

The other issue showed up a few weeks ago. The Banks exhaust brake has a warm up feature that applies the exhaust brake at start up to help warm up the engine until water temp gets to 140 degree's. What is happening is that after a cold start if I put it into gear with the exhaust on it loads and lugs the engine down and puts out black soot! Note TC is a 89 percent DTT unit, that has always been pretty tight!

I have never seen the engine idle slower than its normal RPM before. I am wondering it the bleed hole in the EB butterfly is sooted up. Trying to remember if there was an adjustable stop on the butterfly that has worn and needs adjustment. Again any thoughts?

Made it back to the NW and will have to make a trip to DDT and get the transmission serviced and have them fix the shifting issue. Bill's wife said they would most likely throw a pressure sensor and governor solenoid at it, along with a fluid change. They look in the pan and tell a lot! In the past the bands have never needed any adjustment.

The engine lugging down and smoking went away with the next fuel up, so it appears I got some poor fuel.

Sorry to come in late.

I would have guessed that the Exhaust brake was stuck closed, or at least partially. Does Banks have any recommended maintenance schedule for it, I know my US Gear D-Celerator does.

At least all your issues went away. Post again if they come back. I'd watch the EGT's if the brake issues come back. That may give you a hint at any problems.

No, exhaust brake is working fine. Made the trip from Arizona back to Washington fine. It normally idles on the exhaust brake until water temp is up to 140. Working fine!!!! Makes a real Hisssssssssssssss sound!!!!!!

Well it is time to tackle the shifting issue. I read that a good starting point is the governor pressure switch and governor sensor? Or maybe the speed sensor, but it goes away in a few miles and minutes of warm up time.

DTT is not returning phone calls or answering Emails. I am trying to schedule a service on my transmission. Anyone know what is going on? Chris

If you can't get a hold of DTT, try one of their install facilities that has been working with them for a looooooong time.

Living in NW Washington we all drove to Canada. Not sure that there is anyone in this area. I did test to see if it was trying to shift to second or third by putting the shift lever in second, and it did the same thing. I read that this shows that is trying to shift to second. John L. advised me to check the adjustment of the front band, which is done from the out side. I then will replace the speed sensor, again an outside change. Then will go inside and check for anything in the pan that would indicate a hard part issue and replace the Pressure Sensor(transducer) and Govenor Solenoid while doing a fluid change. Chris

OK, dropped the pan and it does not look good!

First picture is a wide angle shot. Three pieces of something in the front corner and one in the middle behind it.

Closer up! These may have drifted up to this place when I poured the fluid out of the pan.

So what do I do now, put the pan back on and take it to DTT if I could get them to answer their phone? Anyone else in Western Washington that I could trust to work on it?

Chris, if nobody responds to your questions maybe try starting a new thread with the title worded differently. Like "trans problems" or something similar to catch some more attention from the trans gurus. Good luck

Offhand, it looks like the front band anchor and maybe the apply lever has broken pieces out of where the servo pin and adjustment pin sit. That would cause some slack in the fornt band and make it shift a little weird. Time to drop the VB and get a good look at the frant band linkage and check out the drums.

If you can find out what is up with DTT then post back. A LOT of people are wondering the same thing and getting no answers. Your best bet may be local or take it down to Source Automotive in Portland.

A 1/4 turn adjustment is a quite a bit. Tought ot tell what it was at if you adjusted per the book. Also, if the band anchor breaks the side sout the adjustment procedure returns invlaid results most of the time as it cocks the linkage sideways.

Did it solve the shifting problem is the question?

I followed the book instructions. I marked the screw. Loosen it and tighted to 72 inch pounds and backed it off 1 7/8 turns. It still had the 1 to 2nd hunting issue when cold. So today I dropped the pan.

Those pieces of metal came from somewhere and unless they were left in there at build, the usual source is the band anchor and level where the tips of the rods ride. I would drop the VB and verify all that is in good condition. Sounds like there is a timing issue with the shift. It bears looking into.

While the symptoms seem to suggest something is wrong with the front band, I'm wondering if these could be pieces from a clutch plate in the rear clutch assembly?

John L.

John, I am going to just keep calling DTT tomorrow hoping to get through to them. I will then button it up and take it to them if I can get them to agree to work on it.

If not, do you know of someone in the Seattle area? Know anything about the 4x4 shop in Arlington? Randys???

Chris

Could I have two separate issues occurring. That is are these broken hard parts another issue. The single part in the middle passenger side of the pan kind of indicates a location that in came down from. Three in the front may have slide up there when I poured the remaining fluid out of the pan(couple quarts, below the side plug, as Darin at DTT could never get the drain plug loose).

Is the stuff on the magnet excessive for 35K of usage? It looks like a fur ball.

Thanks Chris
