Here's one from the automedia website that was posted in the 3rd Gen forums last month

I do recognize a few names on the race team. Good to see Cord still around the ol oil burners. ;)

At this writing in late September, the truck had yet made a full pass under power. Edge is wandering in uncharted territory when it comes to clutch and chassis setup with the diesel engine. So far the truck had a best of 9. 77 seconds when shutting off at the eighth-mile marker, but the team has notched a 60-foot time of 1. 22 seconds. More tests were planned, including full passes, in October, and the truck is expected to appear at the SEMA show in November where more details will be released on the engine technology.

Man, 1. 22 60ft has to be a thrill to drive.

Battling near-100-degree heat, "The Wolverine," driven by Keith Lockliear, practiced a couple of impressive launches, then the truck was parked in the pits. (A best 60-foot time of 1. 32 seconds hints at this vehicle's true potential. )

After dark, the Cummins-powered machine returned to the Christmas tree. The truck's characteristic diesel-rattle-at-idle quickly gave way to the jet-engine sounds of its exotic turbo system spooling up. Producing a classified amount of boost, the engine ejected the intake hose off the turbo housing before mid-track. Even so, the truck coasted to a best e. t. of 11. 03 seconds @ 91mph. Further inspections revealed that the massive amounts of power actually caused the turbo housing to rotate on its mounts. Edge and Diesel Dynamics took corrective measures, and the truck was later able to run a 9. 77 quarter mile during a test session in Las Vegas.

The Wolverine gave Utah diesel fans a taste of the enormous performance potential in modern "light-duty" diesel engines. Thirteen months in the making, this top-secret project was conceptualized in early 2003 by Edge Products, a leading manufacturer of diesel fuel-management computer upgrades/"chips. "

"Our goal was to produce the fastest, most powerful diesel race vehicle ever seen," says Edge CEO Paul Lehman. "Most people said that the sheer weight and mass of a diesel engine--about 1,100 pounds--would keep the truck from getting anywhere near Pro Stock-type times. We accepted this challenge. "

The tube-frame chassis was fabricated by famous NHRA car builder Jerry Bickel. While the motor is based on a 5. 9L Cummins six-cylinder diesel from a 2004 Dodge truck, only the block is factory-issue. "When something breaks, we can't run over to Pep Boys and get replacement parts," Paul Lehman explains.

Although the engine setup is proprietary, driver Keith Lockliear lays out its underlying theory in lay terms: "We stuff a bunch of fuel to the engine, figure out how to feed it even more fuel, then play with the turbo and boost till we get what we call 'mega mental' amounts of air and boost to burn all that fuel. " Tongue-in-cheek, Paul Lehman adds, "And it gets 20 mpg in the process. "

Lockliear is The Wolverine's sole driver. In fact, the seat's carbon-fiber shell was form-fitted to his body. "If this weren't a diesel-powered truck, I'd have to say that driving it is a gas," Lockliear deadpans.

As the exotic drag truck gets dialed in, it'll appear at selected events through the fall and winter, making occasional exhibition passes. No word yet whether a Wolverine assault on the Bonneville salt is in the cards.

Edge's Paul Lehman concludes, "After a lot of all-nighters, it was great to finally see the truck on the track. We still have some fine-tuning to do, but we wanted to give people a taste of the enormous performance potential possible by applying modern technology to a farm-bred diesel engine. We won't stop till we get into the sixes. " For more information on The Wolverine and its schedule, please visit www.edgeproducts.com.

might want to get the facts streight,

looks like edge has their spin doctors also.

if it was so fast why want they race me

A few facts about the edge truck.

1st no clutch it a Bruno lenco system 4 speed with two overdrives

With a fluid release system from applied nitrous systems

2nd it didn’t run 9. 77 on a 1/8 mile shut off pass

3rd the 60’ is 1. 32

4th it’s a P-7100 mechanical fuel pump no electronic edge special box’s

5th I’m still faster and want to race, after all the bunk I took from them last year,

6th my 8. 72 @ 154. 44 pass was not a perfect pass it has at least 2 tenths with out turning

up the pump which had a # 10 plate my 60’ are in the low 1. 20 range

I’m not being sarcastic here, just tired of the bunk from them , I have worked just as hard and have put numbers on the board , I can and will improve,

And my question is , why is Edge using an antiquated P7100. To me it dosen't say much for all that technology with electronics. Just does not make sense at all.

. . Preston. .

:-laf 2500 ftlb o' torqueage :-laf sure don't want them to estimate the snowfall this winter, might be getting about 100ft.

Comp, Talking smack, is part of racing. Everyone has a better, faster, stronger, yadda yadda yadda... ... :-{}

A P-7100 pump can put more fuel into that engine than the electronically controled VP's. Period, you want to make a fast truck (which they do) They can use whatever they want. 99% of the population ask if I have a "box" on mine. When I tell them no, they look at me baffled. They have all the facts on the truck in the open. Those who know what they are looking at and for know better. They can appreciate the truck for what it is, a drag truck. Your truck is fast, I'll give you that. So is theirs. I'm sure a heads up race will happen soon enough.

Comp why the hell would they want to race you right now? Clearly you know some tricks they havent figured out yet. Long live the 12-valve... . electronic motors are for your wives!!!

I also run a p pump, but with a 24 valve head for air flow, the same as the edge truck. We have a common rail motor on the engine stand with even more improvements. I don’t want this to become them against me bash forum, but it is getting deep, when magazines working on articles about my recent record and success were assailed imminently Monday morning with the Edge trucks as the “be all to end all” of diesel race vehicles. And that it would only be a matter of time before they would be on top of the world with huge performance gains, and they “the magazines “would have egg on there face over mine if they didn’t wait. This is getting funny, but I understand they have spent a round a quarter of a million dollars to chase me, and they want a return on their money. Edge and DD both ridiculed me on these same forums. The pass I made was no a internet dream or a super top secret double Knot spy deal at a Transylvania strip, but in front of 106 ,000 people at a NHRA nation event on Sunday , just before the final round . Risky to say the least, yes because it could have not ended the way it did, but I took a chance. Was it a perfect pass, not by any ones imagination. The little truck lost a pair of intake studs and gasket, due to an over zealous new crew guy and a lack of using common sense tighten a few bolts. The studs let loose 3. 25 seconds in to the run losing us 25 psi boost. What would this have added up to, don’t know, some of you might could figure the amount of power 25 additional psi of boost would have made. As a chassis guy I can tell you that there were 6 hundredths in 60’ left on the table, this would have equaled a gain of about a tenth in quarter mile ET. I was late on the 2 - 3 gear change a , for another hundredth or so. And the pump was not even close to being turned up to max, as evident by clean clear exhaust. Everyone is allowed to look under my front end, nothing secret there, just good old fashion hard work. Edge still maintains the perception that they have a giant edge juice box or other electronics mega mental jeewhizzes, to boaster their product line. We to sell electronic products and dam fine one at that, but under my front end is a set of injectors and p pump that Doc, personally Worked very hard on. Their truck is no different. I do have a common rail motor in development and it will be fast, but the R& D is a ways away from the track. Hell I would have liked to had friendly competition with them ,but when they set about spinning up my successes as only a minor flash , and ever one else should wait for the Edge sun to come up, I was once again compelled to write. Will the edge truck be fast , yes , it is heaver then mine , and dose push a little air , but they will get it in the 8 second range , some day . I know that I can run a solid 8. 50 now on a good track, and will some day get this little truck in to the 7 second club
