I recently bought a low mileage 98. 5 QC 24V 2500 LWB. I have noticed my truck overall sits lower than most trucks of this type, especially the 2000 - 2002 2500's.

I checked my front springs, and I have 39 pass, 46 driver. It does not appear that the rear has had the 5th wheel lowering TSB done.

Why would this truck "appear" to sit lower? Second question, on 2000-2002 2500's, I have noticed that there are a few trucks I see that must have had a factory option of having the largest possible tire installed on the alloy wheel option. What is the size of the largest tire Dodge installed on the 2000-2002 trucks?

Thanks for reading a somewhat trivial post. Oo.

Smaller tires could make the truck sit lower. A long wheelbase and something like running boards could make it "appear" to sit lower. Running boards decrease the ground clearance from the bottom of the body and generally do make a truck look shorter.

The largest tires I have ever seen on a stock ram in those years were 265/75/16's. As far as I know they haven't gone any bigger than that.

My 99 also is lower than others it had a fifth wheel hitch in it before i bought it and i think the springs are just soft. A good friend had a 99 V10 that was much higher in the back and road a lot harder this is why I think my springs are soft.

My friend has a 98 2500 V8, and he actually noticed that it was shorter than my truck. He is a contractor by trade, so he whipped out his tape measure, and we measured from the bottom of both wheel wells and the door handle. In all three spots his truck was about an inch to an inch and a half shorter than mine. I found this rather surprising, due to the decreased weight of the engine of his versus the Cummins. James
