Today I went to a used car dealer looking for a 16 inch rim to fit my pickup. He wasn't there and I decided to look around a little bit. I noticed he has a first gen dodge Cummins sitting there. It a 6/91 build d250 reg cab LE auto. It has 303k on the ticker. The bod;y looks to be in good shape. Like I said, he wasn't there, so I couldn't ask or go for a test drive. So I'm curious as to what a good asking price would be for this pickup. Also, how reliable are these automatics? Thanks

those 4 speed autos hold up fine, you might like a tighter TC, they don't lock up at all. you should also have an inter cooler, and a BIG 21 cc turbo housing. turbo lag sucks, but it can be fixed. if it runs and drives good, front suspention tight, everything works, you could go uop to $4,000 or what ever you are willing to pay for it. i got mine for 2,500, just like yours without the LE pkg, a few more miles, a little rougher, but a great runner.

What kind of fuel mileage could I expect driving down the road? I can get around 18 with my 93 gasser. This truck would be used to pull, at least until I get an HO this summer. How much do the tighter converters run? I'm not planning to do a lot, mod wise. Just so it has the power to get the job done. Although once I get the HO, it could be a pretty sweet project to mod!

Converters in early '91's are VERY loose, to allow for the usual 3. 07 rear differential ratio and lack of overdrive.

Unfortunately, at least back when I had mine, tighter converters are hard to come by, and will potentially bog a bit from a dead start due to the high differential ratio = otherwise, once up to speed, they'll work great.

Mine, towing a 7000 lb 5er, was good for a bit over 16 MPG towing in mixed flatland/Sierra driving.

This pickup has the 4 speed auto, so I assume it has 3. 55 gears in it. I couldn't drive it today, because someone was using it. I may to to get out there tomorrow.
