Meet Rob Smalling, TDR member and owner of the beautiful white 2019 Ram 2500 Limited 4X4 gracing the cover of the latest Turbo Diesel Register #114.
We asked Rob some fun and serious questions about the photo and about himself, and his truck. Here are his answers:
TDR: Where was the photograph taken?
RS: The photo was taken about 20 miles north of Helendale, California, in the open desert land (Bureau of Land Management). I like exploring and checking out the wildlife in these areas.
TDR: Tell us about your truck:
RS: It’s a 2019 2500 Limited 4x4, 3.73, 12 inch display, black leather, most options. I purchased new in Jan 2020 from Browning CDRJ in Norco, CA. and got the Ram MaxCare 8/125,000 $100 deductible.
Transmission: 68RFE
Current odometer reading: 27,000 trouble free miles.
Typical fuel economy (highway) you’re getting? 18-20
Modifications and/or upgrades of note: Ram mud flaps
Daily Driver, my work is an 85 mile round trip.
Used for business and pleasure.
Mainly haul firewood for my personal use.
TDR: How long have you been a TDR member and Ram/Cummins truck owner?
RS: I’m a 2-year member of TDR and this is my first diesel truck. I was a long-time Chevrolet owner but always wanted a Cummins Diesel since the First Gens came out. Then one of my good customers bought a 2018 CTD and I really got to looking at it and had to get one! The rest is history.
TDR: Do you or does your family have a name for your truck?
RS: “New Whitey”
TDR: Other information you’d like to share about you and/or the truck?
RS: This truck suits me and my needs perfectly. I love driving it and am very happy with it – plus I do all my own maintenance and general service. TDR and Geno's Rule! I buy a lot of the parts for these trucks from Geno’s Garage as I own Smalling Auto and Truck Repair. I'm winding down and just do general maintenance and service. I’m just a one man shop now.
I find being a TDR member and participating in the forums fun and helpful and the members are great as well. I'm so happy and proud to have my Ram selected to be on the cover of the TDR!
