I haven’t really heard of any issues with the new CP4 pumps in the new trucks.
I was at the World Ag Expo yesterday and stopped by the Ram display. They had a Cummins 6.7 display on a stand and a Cummins rep.
I briefly spoke to him about the new pumps and he said the reason they changed was because they needed to get higher pressure.
I mentioned that I was aware of the issues with Ford and Chevy but haven’t heard of any with the Ram.
He said they are having issues and are working Bosch to come up with a solution, maybe even going to a new pump.
Of course he said don’t worry because you have a warranty. A warranty is great until you’re sitting on the side of the road in a snowstorm in BFE. I’ll take reliability over a warranty any day.
Any one have or heard of any issues with the new pump?

There is a guy on another forum whose CP4 clatters enough to drown out the engine. After a couple dealers, and trying a new FCA, Ram has authorized a CP4 replacement. I have been waiting to see the outcome before posting about it.

Concerning that the Cummins representative admits issues with the CP4. Given the history of this pump on the Chevy and Fords, it pretty disappointing that Cummins basically ignored all that and went with the problematic pump anyways.

I read a couple of owners on some of Cummins FB pages report CP4 issues. Any of the car manufacturers would do themselves (and their customers) a big favor and stay with what works. Seems like every time some reliable part is "upgraded" it leads to failures.

And it still hasn't been proven that it's the CP4 making the noise. I guess we will know when they change it. It also sound like he's dealing with a dealer that is throwing parts at the noise.

We talked to many of the "factory" folks for the various diesel engine manufacturers at the Ag show yesterday. Turns out hardly any of them knew anything about the product. I know on the Ram side those shows are generally manned by marketing people, not technical people. I would take anything they say very lightly.

Even worse if a marketing rep is admitting there are issues with it.

I guess you can tell us all about the failure rate. I won’t hold my breath. They’re not “ admitting “ anything, because it’s highly unlikely to have any direct knowledge.
Anybody in the equipment business knows sales and marketing talk just to hear themselves. They are no different than car salesmen. I’ve spoken to more of em than you’ve likely even laid eyes on. All you need to do is ask them a technical question to realize how full of themselves and B.S. they are.

If no one cares they used a cheaper and already proven less reliable injection pump .. why is FCA (What letter acronym is the company today again and did it change again while I was writing this? ) spending the extra money on a Cummins diesel when any of the other in-house diesels will do for just the "warranty period"? That is if the failures don't have warranty denials like some OEM's have done already with the CP4 to help customer "Get Lost!" service. The past card of the outstanding warranty costs for the pre DEF early emissions experiment can be held up as an example of our customers don't care if it is a reliable diesel or not because today we are outselling Chevy. Yeah, the bar is really that GM diesel reliability low. So past major warranty problems and here we possibly go again with warranty problems that could get us a "Diesel" without Cummins involved.

The 1/2 tons zero or hero engines are already demonstrating this "Cummins free" in-house diesel for RAM.

It would serve Cummins and other OEM's well to notice the proven turds other OEM's already stepped in and avoid them.

The dealer claimed it was initially quiet, then got noisy again. Where the truth lies is unknown.

QUOTE:
I was told it was quiet at first start up but after test drive it was producing the same rattle vibration noises as before and decel bearing rattle. They sent in the info to tech support and asked them as to what they want to replace next on my truck.
