I've got a 97 1 ton Ram with 5. 9 CTD which has vibrated the cpl tag to the great unknown. I need to know where I could get a replacement tag or if its even possible to replace it. Thanks in advance:(

Common Parts Listing

More detail on cpl tag(spell out cpl)?

CPL= Common Parts Listing

I believe he is referring to the serial tag on the access. drive cover. Cummins uses this for all of their engines. There is a CPL sheet that tells you the common parts (water pump, injectors, head gasket, liners, gaskets, seals, turbo, ect. ) just by the CPL number instead of having to look up the engine serial number. It might be a trick to get a replacement, as I believe the engine serial number is on that also. Some manufacturers are weary about handing out serial tags for their products without the old one in return. I may be wrong, as I haven't run across this with Cummins though...

Engine Data Tag

Moe,

More detail on cpl tag(spell out cpl)re you talking about Engine DYes. When I bought my Ram 4 yrs ago the top rivet on the tag was missing rivet. It eventually vibrated off the housing. I just thought that if I someday start to bomb it might be necessary to have itta Plate?

Moe, if you have the serial # you can go to your friendly neighborhood Cummins dealer and ask them to print out your CPL for you. i have a copy in my file i keep for my truck.

how to find the serial number if its lost is beyond me :D

maybe searching through a Dodge dealer with your VIN might be able to figure out the engine serial #.

just a thought.

It's on the block just below the cylinder head. Just can't remember which side. Will check at work tomorrow. It is something you should write down, never know when you might need it.

See if you can find someone in your area with a Palm Pilot and a Cummins QuickCheck II They can read all the data off your truck for you.

Good Luck

Cliff

I agree if you have the engine serial no. in hand Cummins should be able to supply you with all the info and tags you need.

Engine should have serial no. some where on it besides engine data plate.

Good idea to write down the number somewhere else, maybe owners manual or service manual.
