I had a front tire going down on my 2001 Ram 2500 truck. This morning the tire place discovered that the wheel was cracked, and they showed me where it was leaking. The odd thing is that I don't believe I have ever hit anything with that truck. A used one was going to be $275. That seemed high to me.

Is that really high? Any thoughts on where to get one of these wheels? I am exploring some options locally.

Shop around, $275 is way too much. I have seen sets of four for $200. Most people want the aftermarket stuff, so there should be some around at a very resonable price. ;)

Yeah, $275 is high. The wheels are known to crack without damage.

I left my 4 factory wheels at the tire shop when I got my new wheels. You may check around at tire shops to see if they have one laying around.

I had the same thing happen to me about a year ago.

I went to a local "used" parts dealer (vehicle recycler I think they call them now). He had a rim for me in two days and $150.

I've bought a set for 4 OEM aluminum rims for $300 with lugs and caps a couple of years ago on Ebay. DON"T PAY $275!!!!

Gordan: How do you like your Copper Tires? Good on snow and durability?

They are excellent tires. I got 65,000 miles on the first set, and they were still very safe. As far as snow; I live in the country, so the only four wheeling I do is on snow. These tires are not too wide, so they bite very well. I believe they do a really great job in snow.

Thank you to all who have posted. My e-mail notification was not coming, apparently, and I did not know that there were more posts.

Gordon, Have you tried approaching the "stealership" with the rim for replacement? I undersatnd there's been a history of these. I'm gonna guess that you have the forged aluminum ones and it was cracked on the inside edge where the tire bead seats?

If you get any satisfaction from them let us know as I have the same rims and am watching and waiting for the problem to develop.

Yes, it is cracked on the inside near the bead. I don't know if they are forged or cast, but they are the alloy wheels that came with the truck.

How have you learned of the history of failure? I am not afraid to approach the dealer, but at four years old and 85,000 miles, I can imagine what they will say.

You have P/N 52106367AA WHEEL, Aluminum, WDZ, 16x8, Forged Aluminum.

The only cast aluminum wheels model year 2001 were for Ram 1500's.

Same thing happened to me - tire would almost go flat - turned out to be a cracked alloy rim on my '01. 5

The replacement rim(s) I got from Les Schwab were $50/ea... ... they had a set from a truck that went with custom rim's.

Wish I still had one or two - I'd let ya have 'em for what I paid for 'em.
