:{ Someone came to me this morning at work and said my truck was steaming in the parking lot. I thought he was pulling my leg, but sure enough under the light she was lightly steaming away. Figured a hose had come loose and I'd check it after work. I looked and under the large freeze plugs, passenger side there's what looks to be about a six inch long crack.

Have many of you had luck drilling holes at either end and welding or am I looking at replacing the motor or block (ouch... ... . )?

I'm looking for all suggestions fellas please. :{ :{

I was wrong, it is a 53... ... ... .

Called 1-800-Diesels to speak with Cummins tonight and was promply told that it was standard for Cummins to pay for half of a rebuild with a new block, bearings and rings at one of thier service centers. Looks like I'll have to drive it about 1 1/2 hrs. west of here to Columbia, S. C. . They said they will call possibly tomorrow with details and to see if I accept. I think I'd be happy with HALF. Been driving this old girl since Mar. 99' and only have almost 63,000 on it.

Thanks for the prompt input guys. I was using the search feature when I came across several old threads and spoke of the tel. #. I'd be glad to listen to anymore input you have still.

Those that have had it done, I would guess they use the original head and AHEM, injectors? I wonder if I need to remove the injectors as well as the fueling box beforehand?

I can't believe that Cummins will only pay for half. This is their fault, they sold us defective enigines. I didn't ask for a defective block when I bought my truck and if I had known about it I would have bought another year model. Is there any hope in getting a lawsuit or something to change their way of thinking on this. Afterall they admitted that the blocks were defective.
