Cracked block

I just read on a RV board of cracks in Cummins engine blocks series 53 and some early 54's.

Just exactly where do I find out what my block is?

My truck is an early 98. 5 ISB with only 9000 miles from being our of warranty.

What does it cost to repair if it is out of warranty?

Well Dad since no one has jumped in here I will help...



Here is a thread that had some discussion on it.



Speedo had his block crack and Roy took care of him, but he was also still under waranty.



If you look on the block behind the oil filter its susposed to be there.



If you are out of warrany you have to have a short block, I would guess $4000 total if Cummins did it for you.

Your 98. 5 has a 53 series block, which is used through late 2001's.
