Doing fluid changes tonight, noticed a crack in between 3/4 cylinders in the exhaust manifold. Does anyone have a short term fix that I can use until I can order a new (probably ATS) one?

Thanks in advance!!

It's covered by the engine 100,000 warranty if you are not there yet. bg

Thanks for the replies guy, guess I'll try welding up the hole until I can get a new one. Go figure, just passed the 100,000 mile mark last week!

Just a thought......

It depends on your dealer, but that crack was already started while under warranty. They may or may not help out, but it would be worth a try. I know we all hear the bad stories on here, but I have a good dealer over in Texas that I drive about 80 miles to get to, because they have helped me out and treated me fair in the past.

If that doesn't work out check the classifieds and other boards. I got a used ATS 3-piece for a good price out of the classifieds here at the the TDR.

Just a few thoughts.

Crack fix

Drill out both ends of crack ,then arc weld after grinding out a bit of a V along crack fill from center to both ends . Drilling relieves the stress and grinding a V gives more cover to crack. LOL Ron Bisssett in Metro Louisville KY

Hey Ron - Good one "more cover to crack" LOL outstanding!!!

As Ron mentioned drilling a hole at each end keeps the crack from restarting and V grove allows a place for the weld to fill.

One thing I've seen welders do when they weld cast iron is to heat the (prepared as Ron mentioned) cracked area prior to stick welding until cherry red then lay in the bead while it's still red. I was told this allows the weld to adhear to the cast better.

This is probably not the way to go if you aren't removing the manifold to do the weld. If it's a temporariy fix you're looking for then drill the holes, v grove and weld away.

Just MHO.
