I just had a 4" Exhaust system installed on the Truck, and the guy who did the work told me that I have 3 cracks in the manifold :{ . I went and did a bit of bit of research concerning exhaust manifolds here on the site.

It seems that ATS and HTT make some good manifolds (and those that are bashing each one seem to be more along the line of the which is better Chevy or Ford type arguments), but who else out there makes them? I am just looking for options right now. I really don't want to replace the existing one with another stock one and have to do the same thing all over again in a couple of years.

I also wanted to know how difficult it is to replace. Do you have to do anything with the Transmission cooler that uses the water jacket to get to some of the bolts?

Thanks for the advice

HTT and ATS are the only ones I know of. They are close to the same price and I think they both come pre tapped for egt probe now. The HTT comes assembled at no extra cost so that's plus if you don't want to mess with assembly. They are pretty easy to install, really easy if you have a friend to help.

They seem to be very similar. If you are going to get them coated, then you may want to choose one over the other.

I thought ATS were NOT tapped? Is that incorrect?

Dave

They were not tapped, in my other manifold post someone stated that ATS was now tapped. May have to call and verify though.

must be an epidemic - my 24v is cracked and getting the ATS replacement put on right now... .
jwdeeming where did yours crack at how many miles did you have on it:confused: I am thinking I need to check mine for cracks. How about you other guys, where did your's crack at.

I just got a ATS, it's not tapped. If you can get it assembled, do it. I used the freezer, oven trick, but one side got stuck and was still tough to do.

I am not sure where they are at I still have to look. The gentleman that told me is my neighbor who is a darn good mechanic. His shop is next to the muffler shop where I had the work done. He was helping align the flange up with the turbo elbow when they were noticed. I will look this weekend.

I just know now that it needs changed. Well, it only has 165,000 miles on it. Thought I could get another couple hundred out of it. :D

We are now assembling and the tapping our manifolds.

Any of you guys have a price on the replacement manifolds assembled, tapped? I found a crack in mine about a month ago when putting the boost elbow on.

Between #3 & #4 mainly underneath where you couldn't really see it. There was a telltale crack on the top which was noticable by the black hairline of soot. Once removed the lagest crack was underneath. This was found @ 130k or so. Suggestion - get some Eastwood manifold paint apply before installation and do the turbo too will look much better than rust after a few months.

I haven't seen it yet but the main crack was underneath, close to the center. In short, it was not visible until removed. I was also unaware of some missing bolts in the manifold which I supposed could have contributed to it's demise, athough it has seen 1500+ degrees a time or two in it's life (see mods below;) ) and that's probably the main factor. I have about 145k miles on it now and the hp mods have been in place for over 100k. I would be hard pressed to tell you exactly when the crack occured but I've noticed more soot in the engine compartment in the last 10k miles... Especially when I use the exhaust brake
