How serious of a problem is this? Mine has a pretty good crack in it. It's kinda hard to see for sure that it's a crack because it's around a corner, but there is air coming from somewhere it shouldn't. I cleaned upo the area with a wire brush and I'm fairly certain it's a crack.

No soot around it... yet. I didn't know anything was wrong until I hit the exhaust brake and I thought I had a hole in an air line. Started looking and I found the crack.

Can I run it the way it is? I'll know Monday what EGT's and Boost are doing. I haven't run the truck yet since finding the crack but tooling around earlier eveything was fine.

Can they be fixed or is that a monster waste of time?

And last, who makes a good manifold at a decent price. No sense going Mopar on this part.

IMO,just replace it,You can get the ATS thru us,But you get stuck with the tax. NWAI. (No way around it).

cummins has an updated one they use now. has gussetts that strengthen where the turbo hangs off of if your still under 100K warranty.

You can't build drive pressure with a cracked exhaust manifold on a turbo diesel. If it were a gasser, and wasn't leaking to point of hearing it, you could get by for a while.

I can't tell anything is wrong until I apply the exhaust brake. Normal driving is just that, normal. So far anyway. I'll know by 6:30 tomorrow if it's going to be a problem.

Dealer will have one tomorrow morning. They've never let me down on parts... yet.

He said they've changed them. I'll post pics if there's a visible difference.

How lucky you are, i wish mine would crack so i could justify an ATS manifold to the wife. Just kidding.

If your getting from the dealer i assume its under warranty?

If not buy an ATS instead.

172K = warranty long gone

ATS told me two weeks ago it was ready to be sent out. Still hadn't been shipped as of yesterday and the order was cancelled. ATS can GFT for all I care. Absolutely horsebleep customer service. They should have told me right away it was going to take a little while. Twice they told me "today or tomorrow", the last time was 1 week ago. I don't have enough patience to deal with morons like that. Press the issue and I might tell ya'all the guy's name.

I will take every opportunity I get to bash ATS for their *crappy* way of pretending to do business.

Well ok i guess i wont be calling them. Ive never delt with ATS directly, we order through a supply house. Someone has to have one in stock that could sent it out ASAP... . if you actually wanted one.

Besides who's to say its actually better than the stock one.

I still have to believe anything is better than what you have. I just don't see how you can build drive pressure with a craqcked manifold.

I can still hit 37psi boost pretty easily. I'm sure it's taking more fuel to get it there though. I mentioned before if I didn't have the exhaust brake I wouldn't have caught the crack. BTW I used to be able to hit 40-41psi, but that was a long time ago. I wonder if this thing has been cracked for a while and it finally got bad enough for me to hear.

Since I found the crack I haven't noticed any higher EGT's, not in the slightest. If anything they seem to be down. I think the reflash I had done a few weeks ago might have something to do with that. I used to be able to hit 1400-1500 pretty easy. Now I have to push it to hit 1300. I could still hit 1400, but it's not as easy as it used to be. Both the autometer gauge and the Attitude are running lower so I doubt it's a faulty gauge.

WOW! That's a heck of an offer. I have the new DC version sitting in my backseat waiting to go in tonight though.

You too jnelson.

OK, these files may be huge so deal with it.

First one is a crack that you can't see. In all the pics with screwdrivers, they are sitting on the ends of the cracks.

Next is the main crack, the one that I saw and felt the air coming out of. I didn't realize it was as long as it is. The middle section that you can see is all that I could see until I had the manifold off.

And this one is the kicker. It is of the engine side of the manifold. I didn't know the crack was there until I had it on the bench and was looking for stuff to take pics of.

Here is where the manifold bolts to the turbo. You see the little "webbing" that splits the connection into two halves? Well, that's not there on the new manifold. I didn't get a pic 'cause I didn't catch the difference until I had the new one on. The new one still has the webbing, but it starts maybe 1. 5" further up. On the factory manifold the webbing goes all the way down so it is flush with the turbo.
