Hello,

New to the site, LOVE it.

I have a 98 24v 4x4 SB auto with around 110,000 on it. I just noticed that my exhaust manifold has developed a crack on top near the center. Has anyone experienced this? Will the stock unit take a weld repair? Suggestions on best repair? BTW, engine is totally stock.

Also, I am experience a shuddering in the trans under load when the rpm is med to low. Feels like the TC is slipping. I have stock 4. 10's and am running 305 GoodYear AT's. I know this has thrown the computer off, my speedo is around 10-11% slow.

Any imput would be greatly appreciated.

cracked exhaust...

If you are going to replace the manifold and if you are going to have it for a while longer, go to

ATSturbo.com

They are in utah and they have a 3-piece exhaust manifols that will eliminate cracks.

Here is the pic of it.

Didn't see where you are from but they ship and it wasn't too hard to replace but you have to get the gaskets from either cummins or the ATS place.

I bought mine at May Madness and it was $400 on special but it is retail for $440 or so + shipping.

this manifold has a 1500 deg ability and it flows a little better.

they make it for the 12 or the 24 valve.

Hope this helps:D

Here is a good question!

what can those of us with the orginal design one piece manafold, that has not cracked do to prevent it from cracking? Retorque the bolts?

Hate to hear about a manafold that is only 10K miles out of warrantee cracking.

You can have a stock manifold repaired, any competent welding shop can do it. It needs to be heated in an over first, its not as simple as just welding the crack over. Personally, i would do what Eric said, get yourself an ATS manifold and you will most likley never have the problem again. They are easy to install. As for pricing and where to buy, i dont know, i know www.jannettyracing.com sells them. There may be cheaper places, ill let another member fill you in.

I don't know if it will fit, but I still have my stock manifold sitting in the basement, collecting dust. If it will fit, it's yours for free, let me know. It was on a 2001. 5 ETH, 3200 miles on her when removed and drilled/tapped for a egt. probe.

ATS Manifold

I bought the manifold above for $400

It comes in 3 pieces, you have to assemble it and match the distance for the bolt spacing then bolt it up. ATs says you don't even need to do a pattern to tighten em down.

The ATS manifold also weighs about twice as much as the one piece. I think the 1-piece would just be heavy enough for a gasser.

Don't think I'll have any trouble with this, if it does, ATS will stand behind it. Worth the money even if it is not cracked yet, good piece of mind. :p

ATS Manifold Studs...

Where do I find, and what size, threaded studs to fit the ATS manifold for mounting the turbo?

Jc brown,

Jc brown,

The ATS manifold has all bolts for install

You need to get the gaskets though.

2 of the threaded bolts have to come out of the old manifold and install into the new one.

the new gaskets have little tabs on them to help keep them on the bolts when lining them up to the head.

be sure you have all the bolts down to the head before you tighten them down.

any more questions?
