cracked tail housing?

Me and my brother are looking at a (opps I forgot to look what year. . I think its a 91-92) D250, five speed, 4x4 with just over 200,000 miles, we havent looked at it hard yet but the guy says the tail houseing (between the trans and the transfer case ) is cracked... is this hard to come by and what would it cost to get another one?? and the guy is asking $1000 for the truck... . seems like a pretty good deal... what do you guys think???, thanks. .
