you need to get the codes read. i have a 98. 5 and have alex pepper hook up to my laptop. sounds like your vp-44 is on its way out. if you get a 0216, thata what it is . hope this helps.

I have been searching for how to read the codes for the 98. 5 but errrrrrrrrr no real answer. Some say the key thing, some say a scan tool. How do i do it. Thanks !

I finally found out. Free AutoZone scan for OBDII, but man the threads you got to go through on a search, It was quite fun though, thanks.

Well found my problem. The fuel line going into the IP is leaking at the IP. Must be causing a air to get in and hard starting. thought ya'll might wanna know, cya

On the 98. 5 to read the codes you have to hold down the trip reset button while you turn the ignition on. Keep holding it down until you see the display bars start dancing across the little screen. Never have seen a code there but I guess that's where it's supposed to show up.

The reader sounds like the way to go though.
