Drove to Melbourne fl from NY (1100 mi) with no problem. Drove 3 mi to get fuel then 5 to get lunch. cranked several times no start. Tried to scan codes and my scanner wouldn't connect. Engine was still warm yet the temp gauge needle was down on the pin also the fuel gauge was the same and eventually the low fuel light came on even though I just filled the tank. The distance to empty indicator read ---. I noticed that the fuel pump wasn't running - I swapped a diff rely in with the same result. I jumped the terminals making the pump run - then cranked the engine, still no run. Checked every fuse and fuse link. I had it towed to my Inlaws house. I have tools and meters and a test light. In the morning I will check for loose connectors and chafed wires. Where should I go from here? I am supposed to leave here tues to go back to ny. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Check your fuses - both the PDC and the in cab. The OBDII port may have it's own fuse that year, but usually is married to the cigarette lighter/power supply fuse.

Check both battery connections, and grounds.

Sounds like one or more modules have lost power. Hopefully something simple - usually is, just gotta find it.

If the scanner won't connect the bus is down. The bus is down becasue of a bad connection or the ECU is not booting up. Could be power, could be ground, could be a shorted component. Check and clean all battery cable connections, power connection to the ECU, disconnect the fan harness, then try again. Until you get the scanner to connect you will have a no start condition.

Thanks for the info - I'm going to start looking at it in a little while - does anyone known where i could find a wiring diagram for the ecm and related components - I was thinking about getting a one car subscription to all data

Thanks

If you go the alldata route do a google search for discount codes. I was ready to sign up for my 2013 and found a 3 year sub for $21.95. there were shorter deals also

Checked and cleaned all the battery terminals and grounds - after disconnecting them, they were a lot more corroded then they initially appeared. Through process of elimination (unplugging various components) found the cooling fan to be the culprit. I replaced the cooling fan clutch about 3 years ago (205,000) with the factory replacement. The first time it failed the fan would not work and the truck would run high temp and almost over heat and no codes were set - this time the sensor circuit was dead shorted and that prevented the ecm from booting up - go figure. Just want to say thank you very much - I would really be stuck with out your help - TDR is an invaluable resource.

Glad you found it and got it running. Downside to computer controlled componeents, a direc tlink to the ECU just shuts everything down whne it goes bad that way.
