well, i changed out my crank position sensor this weekend, and don't ya know a half hour job turned into 3 hours.
for about 2 weeks now my tach has been randomly dying and it would seem the truck went into limp mode, a buddy threw the truck on his computer and it came up with the Crank Position Sensor. So we ordered the part, and friday night we put the truck in the shop. in about 10 minutes I had the starter out, and the one bolt that holds the CPS in place out and i'm thinkin, "dang this was easy". so i start tryin to pull the sensor out, and it won't budge, tried twisting it, had sprayed it up, and no movement at all. NOT COOL... so my buddy jumps under the truck and figures he'll give it a shot, crack there goes the pigtail end. Spray it up some more, and try tapping on a side of the sensor to get it to turn, and still nothing. So we take a ride down to his shop, pick up an angle drill, drill a hole in the sensor, and thread a screw into the sensor so know we have something to grab ahold of again, and actually tap the sensor into the block a little ways. Than we cleaned up the hole to the outside portion of the block and finally got the little %*#(% out.
BTW, i was told that the TSB says to just knock the sensor into the pan, and because its magnetic it will just stick to the pan, i wasn't about to do that, just something about extra stuff in the pan that doesn't sit well with me.
