Hi,

Oil has been dripping/leaking from my 04. 5 2WD crankcase vent breather tube. It usually happens after long runs (12+ hours). The truck is completely stock and has been maintained well and never abused. It has 60K miles on the odometer.

There is a coating of oil on the oil pan and surrounding areas. I suspect it is oil from breather tube. The breather tube edges have oil and dirt on it.

The only maintenance done has been: oil/filter, fuel filter, air filter and differential oil changes.

(1) Is this dripping normal?

(2) If not, what problem does this indicate. The drips are thick black oil and does not show any signs of mixture with diesel fuel.

Thanks in advance for advice.

what I do is to double a costco white gym sock and wire tie it onto the drip tube, change it when doing oil change. Keeps the whole engine cleaner, especially the air filter. Gives me something to do with holy socks, since nobody darns them anymore.

Regards, Tom
