I went ahead and removed the factory Crankcase vent and did the vent idea where it comes out of the valve cover. My question is now there there is no bottle on there to catch the oil it is dripping everywhere and it has undercoated my truck. I went ahead and made the hose a little longer trying to keep the oil off the truck is there any thing that i can use to catch the oil or should i not worry about it.

hey there tpruitt, noticed your about 5 1/2 hrs from me there in Richmond, I did away with the vent bottle myself. I purchased a heater hose from AutoZone for about 8-10 bucks uses the existing clamp and routed the hoes down a few inches above the axle so far i haven't had any drip just the usual blowby. I have to admit the removale of the bottle sure did clean up the front of the engine and the fan blades.

I was skeptical at first trying this due to some member mentioning that during winter the hose could get clogged and cause back pressure in the crankcase, so far i haven't had any troubles here in the Western part of the state and let me tell you the winters the past couple of years haven't been so nice but i seriously doubt you would have that to worry about being in Richmond. Maybe the reason i don't have a drip is because she is still stock and will stay that way, I couldn't imagine what anyone would want with more power than this cummins already throws out there, of course *MORE POWER* has led to the bomb bug.

we had an unusually busy winter and mine didn't clog up. I took a couple feet of heater hose and mated it to the tube with a barb connector, tied the hose to the front sway bar and let it extend down a little ways. It does spray the front diff a little bit, but not bad. I get no drips anywhere as of yet.

I extended mine with heater hose as well. I used a plastic connector to mate the factory hose with the heater hose, and then used shrink wrap with built in glue to hold them together. I then routed the line along the path of the trans lines and attatching the factory bottle to the frame with wire ties, on the inside of the frame rail. Just waiting to see how this works, a couple weeks now and still no problems.

My 99 came from the factory without a bottle. The little drips on the driveway were driving me nuts.

Went to Home Depot and bought a 1-1/4 inch plastic pipe pressure coupler ($4), a 1-1/4 plug ($. 47) and a 3/4 inch plastic threaded nipple ($. 27). Put the plug in one of the coupler, drilled 4 quarter inch holes near the top, put a piece of shop cloth in it and screwed the threaded nipple in the other end. Threaded the nipple into the bottom of the stock hose. It rides along side my steering gear. At oil change time, I just screw the bottom off of the coupler and put a new piece of shop cloth in it. No more mess!!:D

How much oil is too much coming out of the vent. I seem to be getting little spots on the floor of the garage after parking all night. Probably only ten drips or less.

I posted the same question about my '97 3500 on the Cummins website years ago and the reply was that a spot no larger than a quarter was acceptable, however, I should visit my dealer if the spot was between the size of a quarter to a half dollar or more.
