HI, I have a 2001 Stock 122,000mi lift pump replaced twice under warranty. Drove to a resturant last evening and upon leaving the truck would crank but not start. Temperature was 75 degrees outside, I checked the codes with my cheapie code reader and found

P1688 which is "Internal fuel injector pump controller failure"

P0121 which is "TPS and MAP" dont agree.

About 1000 miles ago I replaced the MAP sensor.

There is fuel at the Schrader valve at the fuel filter, Didnt get a gauge on that yet.

Any Ideas would be wonderful

Thanks

John

Check fuel shutdown relay and soleniod. Also check the plugin up stream from the solenoid, it may need to be cleaned up. At the same time you can check for power at that point.

I have operational checked all of the relays, I have a fule pump relay and a fuel injector relay and a fuel heater relay. All are electrically good. checked all fuses both in the PDM as well as inside. Where is the fuel solenoid located?

Tests Today:

Inlet fuel pressure=11psi

outlet to injector pump 10. 5 psi

Installed new APPS

Checked all electrical connections to PCM and injector pump

Codes present P1688

Battery voltage 12. 6 static

Battery voltage 10. 8 cranking

Looks like a VP44

If so any best prices and are the re-man units good?

Thanks

John

The 24v engines don't have a shutdown relay/soleniod. Sometimes I kinda wish we did, along with the rest of the stuff that goes with it (P7100).

These guys have good prices on stock VP44 pumps.

Here's another place that modifies the electronics a bit for reliability.

Last of the saga... Replaced APPS, Lift Pump, and Injector Pump. Total job took only about 3 1/2 hours. Makes that good diesel sound again! Only issue(s) was the pump gear is on REALLY REALLY tight Thought I would break the puller before it let go and the inital start took a lot more cranking and air bleeding than I imagined after priming the lift pump. Cleared all codes. Truck runs as new again.

Thanks for your help
