What symptoms if any did you have when your Crankshaft position sensor acted up or stopped working??? I haven't had any real trouble except for a a feeling like something is tugging on my rear bumper at low rpm and a tach needle that isn't that is kinda jumpy.

ran like sh*t, check engine light came on.

Keith,

My engine stumbled and the tach fell to zero then it came back to life. Did this two or three times over the weekend before I found a sensor. I confirmed the problem by having Chrysler put the scan tool on it.

I had a cranshaft pos. sensor and boost sensor go bad at same time. Loss of boost sensor caused a big loss of power the crank sensor caused the tac to go dead.

On some crank position sensors (not sure about ours... maybe) you can simply pull them out and see where the moveable plastic piece has sunk into the sensor too far. If you pull that plastic piece back out and slowly screw the entire sensor back in, it might work for you again. Might be worth a try. Hope this helps some.

Hey Chad, I noticed that it looks like you have to remove the starter to get to the sensor. Is that right or can you work around it?

Thanks

Kieth were you aware that Parts Plus and Advanced Auto will let you rent a scan tool for most any application. all you need is a deposit down for the cost of the tool ($300) but you get it all back when you return it. i used one to diagnose transmission problems on my 95 set it up to constantly monitor AIT CPS and TPS while driving. used it for three days and returned it for all of my deposit.

Keith,

Do you have the sensor?

I had major problems finding mine and eventually it was a Chrysler dealership that had it. I may have the original and the new box with the part number, I will go look for it.

On trucks manufactured after 7/00, the crank sensor is omitted and uses the cam sensor held in by one allen screw in the front cover under the injection pump. You'll know which design you have if a scan tool shows "no cam signal" but the crank signal is fine. They didn't take the crank pulse line out of the ECM's reader side, which makes it confusing if you didn't know the crank monitor signal map was removed... T
