Check engine light came on, truck still running but starts hard. Checked code and have a P0336 crankshaft position sensor signal.

Has anyone changed this sensor without removing the starter ? It sure would be nice not removing the starter.

Input appreciated.

Just watched a guy work on taking one of them out for the past 8 hours. Is there a trick to it? I mean taking the starter down was the easy part, getting it out of the block seems to be impossible.

mine was such a pain. i actually had to drill a hole in it and use an extractor. mine would spin but wouldnt move.

I changed mine to see if it was bad or a VP44, It was the VP 44 :( Mine had gotten stuck in the bore. To get it out, I finally had to Drill a #30 hole in what was left of it and use a small dent puller. The puller was a Mac Tools and was about 12-14'' long. It took only 3 to 4 shots on that and what was left of the sensor came right out. I had to clean up the bore w/some Scotch Brite to get the new one in. I also smeared some blue RTV around the sensor bore after installing it to slow down or prevent the corrosion. Moose00
