My 06 has about 65k on the odo. and after it sits for a few days or more when you start it up, she will stall out 2-3 times before running normal, then i get a crank possition sensor code. I clear it and it goes away until i let it sit for few days again. I checked sensor for signs of damage, none. i disconected conections and cleaned with contact cleaner. Is there an issue with the sensors? do they normaly go bad? thanks.

Not normally but it can happen. If you wan't to double check it you can swap it with the cam position sensor (same part) and see if it recurs.

They are pretty cheap from Cummins or Genos... I carry two spares (past trouble shooting). I want to remember $35? It would be worth the expense just to rule it out...

They are a pretty simple thing... a coil of fine wire wrapped around a ferrite core, a single break in that wire will cause a failure...

I was having problems with long crank times due to problems building rail pressure on cold start. At first, I thought it was the timing harness on my TST Powermax, but as time went on I started to think that it was more related to battery voltage. I replace a damaged battery cable running from the left battery down to the block right next to the ECM and at the same time cleaned/inspected/repaired the remaining ground wires running from both batteries to the block, fender, and frame. Knock on wood, I have not had a crank or cam code since.

ordered new cps from geno's, only $20! the first cheap part i've bought on this truck! will let you guys know if it solves problem. . thanks for help.

new cps installed, problem seems solved for now. will try a few more cold starts and see if problem comes back. thanks geno's and all for help!

update, stalling and crank possition sensor code still there on cold start up. takes about 4 stall outs and restarts before it will stay running. The banks six gun i have in the truck pig-tails into the crank sensor. I'm going to disable the banks tunner and see if this fixes the problem. will keep you posted.

just got off the phone with banks,, there is a know problem with the crank possition harness on the six gun. since i've had it over 2 years, and it's out of warantee... they will fix it for $89. now i have to uninstall the whole harness and send it back to california. . this sucks... never will i buy banks again...
