7:30 Wife arrives home in her rig, with dinner, says lights are goofy!

7:40 Finish dinner, check truck.

8:00 She’s right!

8:15 Log on TDR



Here’s the deal, this is an 04 with fogs, see sig. Start the truck, haven’t touched the light switch yet but the fog lights come on. Turn the light switch to the park position, seems normal – no headlights and the fogs will come on when you pull the switch out. Turn the switch full right (should be headlight position) and … nothing, the only way to get the headlights on is to pull the switch out to the fog position and then the headlights work, both high and low beams correctly but no fogs at all! Here’s the clincher – turn the headlight switch off, shut the truck off and the fog lights come on, then after a few minutes they will go off, I suppose through the timer. As far as the parks go, I think they are on anytime the truck is running and like the fogs go off only with the timer after shutdown.



No, I’ve not had a drink and didn’t make this up. Any one seem this before or have a suggestion?

seriously it sounds like it's time for a trip to the dealer.

Probably a problem with the switch, maybe. Or, maybe Microsoft wrote the software for the '04s.

A guy I work with had similair problems with his '04. The dealer pulled a switch out of another truck on the lot and that fixed it.

Update, new switch, it’s all better now!

Mine started acting up last night. Got out turned switch off and headlights stayed on, all the other lights went off. Came home today in rain had lights on shut truck off and same thing headlights still on turned knob back on then they shut off. The dealer tried to sell me extended warranty said there was alot of electrical parts that could have problems but i turned it down now i am wondering if he knew something i didn't.

This sounds normal to me Kevin. The trucks have a timer and turn off by themselves, not sure about the time though.



If you shut the truck down and then turn your lights off this will happen and is considered normal.



If you shut the lights off first this won't happen.

I found that out. I never shut the truck off then the lights till these past two times. I do like the feature. Lots to learn about the new truck. Thanks
