Attention: TDR Forum Junkies As some of you know I had an accident last week in my 97. While the damage to my truck was minimal for the most part and all things concidered, it's still somewhat down for a little while (driveable but not really preferred at the moment).
Quick version of what happened. Traveling eastbound on Highway 24 outside of Beloit, Ks. I approached a local tractor (1983 Massey cab w/ 4wd) pulling a mobile cattle shoot (type used to load on semi's). I went to pass the tractor in the oncoming lane (no traffic in site thankfully). As I reached approx. 15-20 ft. of the tractor in the opposite lane he began to turn left at the gravel road (a 'T' in the road not a 4 way intersection) obviously traveling approx. 65 mph with that amount of distance it was impossible to stop. I hit the cattle shoot destroying it. It pushed my 'cattle killer' front bumper in 3" (just shy of hitting all the cooler's) the headlight wrap around bars dinged the fender slightly, and in the middle of the accident I had attempted to steer out of it causing me to slide 90*. Somehow I managed to miss all the body parts and mirrors but nailed the drivers side stack (ask member Floor It how flat it is now. . LOL). Anyway, the county sheriff shows up and wouldnt you know it they are neighbors. . (NOT SURPRISED TRUST ME). The owner of the tractor shows up as well (a farm hand was driving). The farm hand told the sheriff it was his fault and that he did not look before turning, the sheriff took my side and wrote it all down (I watched him).
I just figured why bother turning this in and running up his insurance and possibly mine I would just fix my truck myself and save myself the hassles of insurance agents and appraisers. That was until Wed.
I get a call from MY agent wanting to know about the claim that had just come in from the tractor owner's agent. I explained the situation and that I was just going to fix it myself and be done with it. My agent went on to explain that they are claiming that it was my fault and that there was $10k worth of damage to the tractor and that the chute was worth $5k, and that I should get the police report and get with her in person. So I did and sure enough plain as day the report shows that it was his fault. Then to make things more fun come to find out that the tractor owner himself is my ins. agents ex. - brother in-law and they HATE each other.
This is all getting so crazy and/or funny I just had to share with everyone on here. I have no idea what is going to happen yet, but it should be interesting to see what happens none the less.
