Rob: Where do I send pictures of my RIG

This website has so many posts and threads that it's hard to go back and find one if you want to re-read it a few days later. There is so much valuable information of personal interest that I wanted a way to access it easily instead of wasting time churning slowly through the web looking for it!!

So, I started a new habit. Anytime I log on, I also open up my Word program at the same time. Any post I find interesting or useful, I highlight it with the mouse, click "copy" then click over to my Word document and click "Paste. " Once pasted on your page, you can edit it to your heart's desire. If you copy over the postee's name & time/date, all the URL links will be there and I always delete them to clean up the page. I only copy the most informative and useful posts in a thread to keep it short & to-the-point as possible. I also drop one font size to fit more on a page.

I often open up several files at a time in Word so they're handy to add posts to. They are titled such as "Injector Upgrades," "Tires" "Exhaust" and so on, and add all related posts on those subjects I am interested in. When I log off, I edit the pages, click "Save" and then I've got all my reference info, ready to return to with just a couple clicks of the mouse.

Another nice feature is URL links are transferred to your word documents. If you're only running your Word program and click on a link, it will dial up your ISP and connect you to the site. Sometimes if there is a long thread with lots of info, I copy & past the thread's URL at the top of my document so if I want to refer to the entire thread, I simply click the hyperlink.

I have a 3-ring binder for my truck in which I collect all sorts of info for handy reference. I print off my favorite Word files to put in the binder. It's my personal "Best of the Board!"

This sounds quite clever, I'll have to try it. I print the whole thread and the posts that aren't valuable hit the circular file. Your way sounds better

This brings up the question, what happens to the older posts? What happens if I want to access a topic 6 months from now and I know that piece of info is there somewhere? Assuming a guy hasn't done that Word-save thing. I know that's going to happen.

Not to worry, Benson. When you get on the main page of a particular forum, check out the box on the right that says (at least mine says) "show topics from last 20 days" with "GO" button next to it. If you click on that box and get the pull down menu in it, you can click on the bottom one on the list that says "show all topics", and hit "GO". Down at the bottom of the page, below the titles of all the posts, you'll see on the right "page 1 2 3" etc. You can go all the way back to the beginning of this website in August. Just for kicks, I just did this with the "Second Generation" board, and I found that there are 29 pages of topics.

Vaughn,
Thanks for a great idea. It works like a charm. Now all I have to do is sort back thru some of the olders stuff and carry it over.

98. 5 3500 QC No Mods yet but another week of reading the posts and I'll be forced to do something.

Benson, in addition to Andy Perreault's idea, you can click on "Search" above. Put in your criteria (key words, dates, etc. ) and let'er rip! I've used it several times and it works like a charm. (And it will search the entire forum if you want. )

Vaughn, your idea is great in its simplicity, value and ease of use. I have quite a stack of full-thread prints that are starting to eat up some of my storage room. Yours is a MUCH better idea. Thanks!

I don't even bother bringing Word up. I use Internet Explorer and simply do:

File->Save As

and save the thread to an HTML file. It saves the text of the posts exactly as they appear. The only drawback is that there is some HTML stuff in the posts, namely icons and ads, and that will cause IE to try and bring up the default dialup connection, but I just cancel them. There's probably a way to even that off, I just haven't "explored" it further.
