Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Creeping Boost Hoses?

34 LBS of boost is pretty awsome, but, when your hoses keep creeping out from under the clamps under a full load, it doesn't do ya much good.



I've blown the upper boost hose on the starboard (Uh, I mean passenger) side each time I've pulled my trailer for the last 5 0r 6 trips.



I pulled that entire side off, washed it, made it back up and TORQUED it to 75" LBS, but on sustained full load (6 degree grade 13K trailer) the hose creeps out and kills the run.



Mark Chappel suspected some oil from my AFE filter was the culprit, so I swapped it out for a stock unit, but I haven't towed with it yet to "QA" the theory.

Clean the contact areas well then spray with hair spray, torque to 72 in/lbs and you shouldn't have a problem.

yup done that!!

Had the same thing happen last week coming out of vegas going up hill with the race car in tow. running about 40 lbs boost when all of a sudden whoosh!! no power lost the lower right hose. put it back on and finish the trip. tightened all of them be for we left home!Hair spray illflem? never thought of that. mike

The cheaper the hairspray the better. The stuff holds like contact cement but breaks free easily when needed.

Are you guys talking about the hoses which go into the intercooler. If so I found that I had bent one of the clamps and was one of the main reasons I kept blowing the hose. I ussually check the torq everytime I change the oil. If this is the same hose you all are talking about I will also try some hair spray, just to be on the safe side. No fun being on the side of the freeway crawling under the truck putting the hose back on.

I just installed some silicone turbo hoses. They were a little short & slippery and every time I tightened the clamps they began to slide off. So I took them off and put them on a piece of rubber on the horn of the anvil and center punched them about 6 times from the outside inward making dimples. The dimples dig into the hose so the it can't slide out of the clamp. Its working well so far.
