I need some help here. I finally have gotten the chance to build a truck that I want. I just purchased a slightly wrecked 92 centurion converion 4 door, crew cab diesel 2wd. I have two frames and drivetrain to make the truck into a 4x4. HOWEVER im stuck on deciding what year of cummins to run in the truck. The 92 I bought doesnt have the motor in it and I have two optoins at this time. I have a friend that has a really good deal on a 97 cummins with only 50k on the motor or I can purchase the shop truck at work for a decent price. its a 93 xcab with a nv4500 already in it but the nut on 5th gear has back out and the motor runs like new but it has 300kon it. I would really like to stick with the first gen motor just for simplicity but the 50k vs 300k im a little undecided on. but on the other hand the 93 is complete and all there so the swap to my 92 would be fairly simple. ????

Second, if I was to stay with the first gen, do you think a 16 housing, set of POD injectors , k&n filter, and dual 4" straights would be a great start?

You will be much happier and more powerfull with the 97 motor. They are a bolt in, I am running a 98 motor in an 85 truck with a 93 wiring harness and pcm (ecm?). Not to say that the 1st gen motor isn't any good, it's just a lot easier and cheaper to get horsepower out of the P7100 motors. If the 97 your looking at was in front of a stick, you're looking at 215 HP right off the bat, compared to what, 160 or so out of the 93?

Not to whiz in yer cheerios, A buddy of mine had one of those conversion cab trucks, and he had a lot of trouble keeping it together where the fiberglass extention was attached to the original sheetmetal after he converted his to 4x4. Too much flex, I guess. I don't recall if his was a Centurion, they have been around for quite a while, I doubt they put out junk.

That's gonna be a cool rig when you get it done. Keep us posted.

My first suggestion would be for you to sell me the crew cab cheap and forget the project. :D But, I imagine you aren't interested in doing that. :(

I'd go for the '97 engine so you start with an engine with less miles and have more power easily available with the P-pump.

thanks for the input guys, I checked out piers diesel today and that answered some of my performance questions.

BUT if that is the case on the cab, and there is a little damage on top of the cab that I have so it will be in the body shop anyhow, just wondering if there is a way to strengthen it to make sure its not trying to come apart.

sounds like im going to be staying with the 97 but what is your input on the injector pump as far as performance up grade. Iwas thinking of sticking with the hx-35 turbo from piers?

Jfitzgerald, a few things have came up so I may have to sell my project. send me an email over to -- email address removed -- and we can discuss it.

thanks
