This is for my TDR friends that don't follow the Conversion forum very often. After much delay my 85, Dodge of course, D350 crew cab is now Cummins powered:). The engine and transmission is in, minus drilling new bolt holes for the diesel transmission crossmember. I know some conversions were able to use at least one set of the gasser trans crossmember bolt holes. Not this one, not even close. Originally was a 360 np-435 4 speed 2wd, now Cummins getrag 2wd. For the life of us, we could not get the engine and trans, bolted together, to clear the cab and engine crossmember. The bellhousing was hitting the cab, and the forward end of the oil pan was hitting the engine crossmember. No matter what angle I had the combo, was using a cherry picker and load leveler, just wouldn't make it. Even with a jack underneath the trans it wouldn't go. After about the fourth attempt me and Matt removed the transmission and the engine slid right in. This was with the radiator core support removed too. Sorry no pics right now:-{}.

Well, you've been a busy little beaver haven't you? :-laf Good to hear you're making progress! My cab is still sitting in the garage! :-laf

Good to hear you're making progress!

Making progress, but not up and going just yet DP;). It's just in there. I'm kinda wondering what I should do first or get together/fix etc. Driveshaft, rear end swap, powersteering, clutch pedal, fuel lines, underhood wiring, etc. It will be hard to keep myself from getting it running first:-laf. I know that can wait til a bunch of other things, tempting:D.

This answered my question. A local TDR member and myself was under the impression that the truck w/gas engine was for sale.

Congrats on the progress. I have had little time to turn a wrench on the truck since July. That was when my very reliable lawn tractor took a huge dump on my lawn and never was able to get the engine operational again. Now I have another and it needs loads of TLC to make good.

PS If anyone has a 1966 Techumseh HH100... ... ... ... ..... I don't need it anymore! :)

Hey Bill great to hear that you got motor in on wireing if you have a donor rig use the wireing from it makes it plug n play as for clearence problem's maybe a slight body lift or even a cummin's core support ? and yes we would all love to see pictures of the beast :)

Cool

So you talked Matt into helping you, good!:-laf

When I read the title of the post I was expecting to put in a date when I could get a ride, but then you go on to say that you don't even have the transmission support in. Just kidding, I'm glad that you got it in there, and also that means that you got the transmission cleaned up (lots and lots of either, for those that were at SOP) and put together. Cool, can't wait to see it.

Did you get the trans in yet? I had to put the motor/trans combo in as one, as I wasnt able to get it in seperate after hours of trying. Just wondering how it went on the install.

Man, all this talk about crew cabs is almost enough to make me miss mine... . for a little while anyway.

I look forward to seeing this under power Bill. Congrats in your progress so far. Think it'll make it to SOP next year?

what are you guys using for a headliner in those crewcabs?

i have an 83 crewcab dually with a cummins/allison in it and its loud in the cab.

i've insulated the firewall, the floors, inside the doors, and i'm going to put some kind of headliner in it.

its quieter with the windows down,so its an echo in the cab i think.

Randy

Hey Randy headliner ? What head liner they usually dont have one allthou my last one did it was just low pile carpet glued up there .

the hi end first gens had a cardboard pannel that went on the as a head linner. you might be able to use 2 of them and trim the back one down

When I had my 85 I put a headliner in it. I cannot for the life of me remember what the stuff is called... all I can think of is particle board but I don't know if that is right or not. Anyway, made a cardboard template, cut out the mystery material board, and covered it with automotive carpet. If I had to do it over again, I would use the material available at the fabric store. I re-did the factory headliner in my Ramcharger with this stuff, and it is awesome. Nice, thick foam backed stuff. IIRC, they had grey, maroon, blue, and maybe tan. Use 3M spray glue, I got it from walmart. It is in the red and black can. First I tried some spary glue that says it is for headliners, but it never got sticky. The stuff from walmart was $9/can, but worth it. I had planned on doing one in my grew cab (which I got form the guy above me) but never got around to it. I was giong to use the particle board stuff and make a front and a rear. Maybe double layer it so I could lay one peice of matierial over it front to back.

I'm sure you guys don't want to hear from me unless I have pics... well sorry I've been very busy the past couple weeks... no pics yet. Switched to day shift, it's nice I can work on the crew cab after work, no time to get on the computer at the other house:).

Engine, transmission and transmission crossmember bolted in! Got a sweet deal on a woodburner with a fan doo hicky, so that will get hooked up in the garage this weekend, then it's fuel system install, then D70 install. I'm thinking it should make the trip to SOP5 if all goes well. I gotta get this thing built and moving under it's own power to start on the twin project for old Silver Bullet:-laf. - Bought a Hobart 140 mig, now Matt gets to teach me how to weld:-{}:-laf:-laf:confused::eek:.
