Wood chips and chicken poop to fuel. Auburn Univ.

hey My GF and i were trying to figure out what would be the best crops to plant to make biodiesel from and would it be worth it to save money on fuel? I own 15 acres that is plantable. we would do all the work ourselves except the actual harvesting everything else we can do. right now we burn 30 gallons of diesel every 2-4 days approximately and do alot of miles (3. 5 months close to 14,000miles)

which crop do you think would be most yeild to acre? which make/model equipment would you suggest to extract the seed oil ?

If it were me I would go with Rapeseed which produces Canola oil. A conservative estimate is around 127 gallons per acre. From what I have been told Canola is the premier oil for biodiesel. The cetane is between 55-58.

Soybeans is around 48 gallons per acre with a cetane of 53. Don't hold me to the gallons per acre the ones I posted are called conservative numbers. Vegetable oil yields, characteristics: Journey to Forever

This venture might cost you more to get started than you think. Any neighbors that might want to get in on it?

I just burn a ton of diesel. when i get bored i go riding around and occasionally get to blowing smoke or racing. i wish diesel grew on trees i do have 24 acres of trees. but currently I have 2 diesel trucks and a 3rd is one the way pending government approval. then we will probably be buying 2 more diesels after that one one for playing and one for my brother.
