It's 2,264 miles coming across I-40 to I-44 to I-55 to I-80 to I-94. I-40 has been closed a couple time this winter in New Mexico and Texas Panhandle.

It's 2,172 miles coming up I-15 to I-70 to I-80 to I-94. I-70 has had some closure due to snow.

Catch the weather right and all will be good.

I'll be heading out your way in a couple weeks. Either Lemoore or San Diego - according to orders for a sailor from the DOD. Will be stopping in Banning for a few hours.

PC Miler says it is 2171 miles going up I15 to Utah, I70 to Denver, I76 to I80. That sucks this time of year. 2267 miles I15 to I40 thru Albuquerque to OK City, I44 to St. Louis, I55 to Chicago. Personally I'd drive the extra 96 miles.

edit; JJ beat meto it

If you go across I-80 thru Wyoming and it starts to snow don't be afraid to call it a day and wait it out. Watch the ice and wind! Denver traffic is a hastle almost all the time.

You can also take I-70 all the way across to I-55. This time of year, I-70 in Colorado can be dicey even if it is open this time of year. The route through Independance Pass is frequently icy and if you time it wrong it can be a parking lot due to ski traffic heading back to Denver. If it was me I'd go the I-40 route. In the summer time, I think I-70 through Colorado is a prettier drive. I-70 to I-80 is also pretty nice until you get to Nebraska, there are some fairly big hills near Salt Lake but I think you would miss them as they are closer to Salt Lake then where I-70 connects to I-80. The I-80 portion is also pretty rough for the entire portions of Wyoming and Nebraska that I have been on (several years ago). It has expansion joints every two feet or so that will either rock you to sleep or move your kidneys depending on your suspension.

Also depends on if you are hauling heavy or not. If you are hauling heavy I-40 is a bit flatter and has a lower max elevations.

If you make it to Nashville you went too far! Take I 44 NE out of OKie City to St Louis then I 55 n to I 80E to I 94 E. WATCH OUT FOR Weather in NM and TX. NM uses the Holy snow removal plan. God put the snow there HE can remove it at his leisure! LOL Good Luck

Coming from someone that travels most of that route...

I40 to Tucumcari, NM... pick up Route 54. Follow Route 54 to I-135N. Take I-135 north to Route 50. Follow Route 50 to I-35 (this jog bypasses the tollroad). Run I-35 to I-470E/N. Follow i-470E/N to I-40E and head for St. Louis... this is THE quickest way to St. Louis.

I run that route about every 3 months... cuts off a lot of time even though it is 2-lane roads... and there are lots of diesel stops along Route 54, and a Flying J at the intersection of Route 50 and I-35. And these are mostly roads in good condition...

I personally hate I-44 in MO... windy, twisty, rough. I-40 to Memphis (to I-55) is a long ride too. And I-40 to I-35... well, my route cuts that corner off.

I try to avoid TX since it has that new speedlimit and everyone races along at 85mph or more...
