Since I bought my 2005 CTD used in 2012 I have had the occasional issue with the cruise control randomly stop working. A while down the road it'll start working again though.

However, on a recent trip where I had to park the vehicle over night the temps dipped below 25 degrees. That morning when I got on the road it was still below freezing and I tried using the cruise control and it wouldn't engage at all. As I kept driving it warmed up as I dropped down into Sacramento Valley and the cruise started working again.

What do you guys think the issue is?

Best thing I can recommend it take it to someone with the proper electronics to verify what's wrong.

I had a car a few years back, and the cruise just rammed up for no reason at all. No matter what I tried, I couldn't figure it out. The local shop said the board was BO and I went to a wrecking yard to find another for the heck of it and for $50 bucks was running proper again. It isn't essential for running daily, just a added plus for comfort. But guessing will drive you nuts.

You are probably looking at an ECU replacement since the CC is all in the software in your truck. There is a remote possibility of an APPS issue or maybe some bad contacts in the buttons\switches or wiring also.

Would that '05 have the little electric vacuum pump???

Also, check your brake lights and switch.

Mike.

I was wondering about a little vacuum pump too especially in light of it not working at all in the cold. I was thinking the frozen rubber hose wouldn't seal right if it was already in bad shape.
