2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission cruise control code P1597 specifically

Heya guys. I have done an exhaustive search on cruise control problems with some mentioning code P1597. What I can't find is what to do to correct the problem. Code P1597 is "speed control switch always low speed control switch input below minimum acceptable". Symptoms are that i get no cruise light in the odometer window and cruise does not function. Cruise light does light on initial dash light check when turning key on. This happened once before about a year ago but cured itself. Both times that cruise malfunctioned the weather was quit cool (32 deg F) . I disconnected both batteries which did clear code but did not fix problem. Any thoughts on the specific reason for code set would be greatly appreciated. Steve
