2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission cruise control comes on but goes off

my cruise control comes but goes right back off. then it wont come on again untill i restart the engine. any help would be appreciated!!!!!!

You don't list what year truck you have. This works for the 12 valves and I don't know if it works for the newer electronic trucks but turn you key on but don't start the truck. Then turn it off, then on, then off, then on, then off, then on. Now watch for the engine light and count the flashes. There will be a slight pause between each series of flashes. After that it will flash 5 and 5. That is the end of test. If it flashes 3 4 or 3 3 4 like mine does it is with your Vacuum canister (someone hop in here and help) I can't remember what the others are. Hope this helps.
