cruise control doesn't work

I have a 98. 5 that I recently purchased and the cruise control doesn't work. The previous owner said that he never tried to use it. The cruise light on the dash will not light up. The fuses all check good. Both the steering wheel switches were bad by the tests in the manual and replaced, but still no cruise. My mechanic has a snap on code analyzer and it shows no codes.



Any ideas???

I have the same problem on my 98. 5. Had the Cancel switch set replaced. No help.



I found that making the Cancel switch "pop up" by sliding my thumb off the switch allows the thing to work. I haven't looked to see why this works.



The same process worked with the original switches, so it must be something in the steering wheel that doesn't allow a contact to break loose.

It's time to get out the meter and the manual and start checking circuits. It sounds like a bad connection somewhere so no power is even getting to the on button. If there was power that far it should have thrown a code.
