just purchased a 92 4x4 (my first dodge diesel) andall was well except the cc didn't work. first found the watchspring was broken so i replaced it as well as the well worn looking switches in the steering wheel. cruise would now work interrmitantly. next cleaned all the connectors i could find that had to do with the cc including the cps plug by the #1 valve cover. this morning on the way to work i noticed the volt guage slowly drop to about 10v ,thenonmy way home tonite when i turned on the headlights the guage dropped to 8v and so i pulled off the road to check it out. i remember reading a post about the cps being in with the alt. curcuit and low and behold when i lifted the cps plug into a verticle position the lights brightened up so i wiretied the plug to the heater hose and off i went to the house with a charging alt and a WORKING CRUISE CONTROL :--) i m sure of a broken wire in the loom from the cps to the plug so ill order a new cps tommorrow. hope this might help some of u guys having cc problems you may have only a few strands of wire that havnt broken yet . something to check anyway since this connector is not secured from vibration from the factory? by the way how do i add my truck info to the end of a thread or post

Go to the top of the forum page and select "discussion Forums", scroll down to "User Control Panel" & select it. Left had side locate "Edit Signature" & select it. Once you fill it out, then be sure to select save at bottom of signature box.

BTW Welcome to the forum!

thanks tugboatphil, the assylum is not so bad, i'v seen alot of good advice posted from the inmates i mean menbers. I decided not to replace the crankposition sensor since there isn't really anything inside one to go bad. Instead i replaced the connector by the valve cover(the brace for the loom had worn thru the wire insulation and the cps was shorting against the bracket) Ya'll be aware that the 3 wires going into the plug do not correspond to the 3 wires coming out of the plug and the wires from the cps are not color coded. Have a continuity tester handy if you do this repair .

Hey there PT..... good to have you in the group... . they're all a great bunch of guys in here and no question is to small or trivial... . in fact the only question that is a dumb question is the one you DON'T ask so, have at 'er. .
