My brothers cruise control on his 99 is not working properly. I used to work great and now you turn it on and set it, then it will drop 7-10 mph before it picks up. It the picks up very slowly. Also when you push resume accelerate it does not rapidly pick up like it used to. And the third think is it drops about 3 mph up small hills before it slowly picks back up to speed.

Is this the reflash problem or the actuator under the drivers side battery.

2 things. I think the cruse unit is under the DS battery. Remove the battery and check it out. I have heard of batteries leaking and distroying the cruse. I think 99 also used the vacuum pump to run it. Make sure there is not a vacuum leak.

Then there was a discussion on how to "teach" the cruse control. Something about turning it on, cruse at 55, set, turn it off, back on, do it again for around 3 times. I have not found a 2nd gen cruse control that really worked good. They all drop speed when you push set then run like bat out of hell trying to catch up to where it was set.

TJ,

First, drive vehicle and turn c/c on-off at least 8 times. Then check and see if it still is slow to respond. If it is do next step.

Since the cc works(sort of) but is slow to respond it sounds as if the system has a pin hole leak and/or loose connection.

Check the vac. lines with a tester for a pin hole leak and/or a loose connection from servo to firewall.

Not sure on your year truck but a code will be set and can be retreived using DRB scan tool.

crabman :)

My 96 did the same thing then stopped all together. It was the vacume line that goes to the actuator under the drivers side battery. The acid had leaked down and coroded the vacume line which was also pinched under the bettery support. Just my experiance.

Oh I fixed it with shrink wrap tubing. Cut out the bad section, slip shrink wrap over it and heat it. Has worked great for over a year now.

It was a vacume leak. We realized this had to be the problem before we even looked at it when we realized that his vents would not change from defrost either. Hmm, both work on vacume?

Thanks for the replies.
