2001-4wd, auto,Cummins,8000 miles, cruise quit the other day, horn still works, is there a fuse somewhere or have i got a clockspring problem,i just hate to take it in to the dealer, Seems to me i did see a clockspring recall, mine was built 07-2001 in mexico.

Possibly the vacuum line

Yellow, my cruise quit on me about a month ago. After searching the TDR I saw that a few had discovered the vacuum line had split. Sure enough, mine had too.

It will only take you a second to see if this is your problem. The hose runs from underneath the driver’s side battery back into a cloth-braided sleeve (just wire management) then up to the dash. It comes up to the dash right under the rubber seal that meets the back of the hood. Get a flashlight and look down under the battery from the top front area. The black hose may be broke in two right in front of the battery near a silver canister.

What was happening to these guys, happened to me. A very small amount of battery acid had dripped down on to the vacuum hose and eaten through the hose. The hose is a black hard plastic and the battery acid seemed to have dry rotted it? Then it finally split in two.

You can get some 3/16 ID fuel hose from AutoZone for around five bucks. And some 3/16 OD vacuum hose couplings for about three bucks. Plug them in and your done. I never checked how much it would be at the dealer – I wasn’t in the mood to be over charged for four feet of plastic hose.

Could also be the vacuum line vibrated lose or got pulled out and not connected to the vacuum module under the drivers side battery. Had this happen to me twice once the dealer did it when changing fuel filter (first time) second time I did it myself when changing fuel filter. After I pushed it back in; I maybe did a better job of it because I have not had it happen again. Usually if clock spring you get other stuff happening like bell ringing and warning lights specially when you turn the steering wheel, may even make noise. :D
