Have a '93 Club Cab. Recently, the cruise control causes the engine to surge when it is engaged. Engine runs fine when not on cruise. Dealer said it might be a vacuum leak. Anyone had any experience with this?

I recently purchased a '93 D350 Extended cab with a Getrag 5-speed that's doing the same thing. My speedo also acts crazy. When driving @ highway speeds, when I ease off the accelerater pedal, the pointer will drop maybe 40mph or so, when I get back on the pedal, it will go back up to suspected speed. Maybe a speed sensor? Help! Thanks in advance for any responses.

Flathead6/Chris have you checked for any fault codes. The fsm list 3 pertaining to the cruise control. To check for faults turn the ignition on and off 3 times leaveing it on at the third time. Watch the check engine light, if there is a fault it will flash the code. The fsm list 34,15,11. 34 is for servo and engine controller,15 is for distance sensor,11 is for crankshaft posistion sensor.
Good Luck.

In 92 there was a recall of the cruise control module that caused the engine to surge. I had mine replaced at that time but, it only helped it a little. I still keep a light touch on the throttle while on the cruise control to dampen out the surging.

I had the same problem with the cruise control on my 92(automaitic). It turned out to be the speed sensor. My speedometer would also start bouncing and occasionally wouldn't even work, preventing it from shifting into 3rd or overdrive, when I first started driving. I replaced the sensor and everything started working.

The tsb for cruise control surge was for the 92's. The tsb number is 18-05-92 dated 6-15-92. The part number for the manual trans trucks is 56027081, the auto trans trucks is 560027083. My powertrain control module was replaced under this tsb and it fixed my surge problem.
