I wonder if anybody else has this prodlem. When I set my cruise control, it will accelerate to about 5 MPH over the desired setting. After about 5 minutes, the speed will slowly drop to within about 2 MPH of the desired speed. Holding down the coast button the speed will drop but will ease back up to the initial setting. Not a real big prob but kind of a pain.

My 98. 5 had this problem. Back in 98 they installed 2 Cruise Servos, then kept telling me how to "learn" the cruise control as they pointed to this TSB .

Then in 99 they did a "PCM reflash" (I can't find the number, and I traided in the truck so I can't look at the decal) which fixed the problem 90%

Had the same problem with my 99 2500-dealer did a transmission reflash when the overdrive wouldn't lock up-and the cruise worked perfectly for the first time in 65000 miles!

PS- the stealer charged me a 1 hour minimum $65 for the reflash-the book and tech bulletin calls for a 30 min job. When I asked why the extra 30 minutes- was told that was for the service writer's and cashier's time! This was Karl Klement in Decatur, TX.

Just didn't feel like making a scene for $32. 50-know what I mean?

What it is, at least in 12 valves, and correct me if I am wrong, is when you set your cruise control, you completely let your foot off, then set the cruise. . This causes the cruise to not know where abouts the pedal was, and so it tries to find around where the speed was... it takes 25 times of setting the cruise and turning it off. . This will reset the problem, as mine functions perfect now, and did the same thing before. There should be a few posts on this here, and you should look in the archives. . I hope this clears it up a little for ya.

I've been through this on my 99 also. I was unaware it took 25 times to re-learn the computer. Tell me... when you say set the cruise then turn it off, does hitting "Cancel" count as turning it off? Or do you actually hit the "Off" button.

I've tried this process but only about 10-15 times in a row. By then it seems to straighten up. I didn't know it took 25 times. Then next day, its back to the same old thing. So whatever it "learned" it forgot overnight:(

It is my belief that it is hitting the ON/OFF button, and not the cancel. . I hope this works for you! keep me posted!
